GM: Red shirts white ties?

I want people's opinion, because I can't find pictures online. A friend's wedding they had the groomsman wear white shirts with green vests for the ceremony, and then switch to black shirts with the green vests for the reception. I thought it looked really cool and (with permission from my friend) we want to try something similar for ours. Our color is red, and my FH said he wants to try a variation of that - white shirts with red ties/vests for the ceremony, and red shirts with white ties/vests for the reception. I'm afraid it weill either look really good, or really overwhelming with all the girls in their red dresses too.

What does everyone think?

Re: GM: Red shirts white ties?

  • Well, once you hit the reception, the bridesmaids and groomsmen won't be standing next to each other anymore, so their outfits no longer really matter at that point.  Personally I think that doing a costume change at that point would be a bit much, but whatever works for you.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • My sister did red. Her husband wore a black shirt with a red vest/tie and the groomsmen (including the bestman) wore white shirts with red vest/tie. And us bridesmaids (i was MOH) wore red dresses, all in different styles but all in satin in the color Apple Red from Davids. I would be happy to send you a picture if you wish! :)
  • Back shirt, red tie & vest
  • I think a red shirt might be a little too much but black shirt with red tie would look great

I think it's a bit much to have them all change clothes between ceremony & reception... especially if it means having to buy/rent 2 shirts/ties/vests instead of just one.

But if your attendents are down with it, I guess that's your choice!
  • Can you alternate? Say 2 guys red/black and 2 guys black/red?  And I agree with Aerin in it seeming like a costume change no one will notice
