Groom wants a wierd song for him and preacher to walk down to...

So my fiance is wanting to go down to an Irish song, which at first I was like okay because we are Scottish and Irish and most my ceremony songs are traditional Irish songs. However, I didn't know he meant Flogging Molly! Oh dear I already said yes without asking what song or band. This is all he has asked for. I listened to the song and its not cussing, but its still Irish punk rock... Think I am going to have to axe this!

  • My only thought on this is:  I've never seen the groom &/or preacher walk down the aisle.  They always come from the side somewhere.

  • oh goodness, being Irish myself I have to chuckle at this one.  I'm familiar with most of Flogging Molly's songs so I can see your concern.

But the PP's are right, it is his wedding too. Look at it this way.  You won't be out there to hear it so I Wouldn't worry about it.  You'll still be behind the scenes waiting to make your appearance (to your song) and walk down the aisle.  I'd just roll with it and let him do what he wants.  In the grand scheme of things if this is all he is asking for then I'd be thankful. lol And really as long as it isn't wildly inappropriate (think Pour Some Sugar on Me or the like) then hey, have fun with it.  Flogging Molly is an excellent band.

  • I think its better to leave it. Do you really want it to come up in 5 years in the middle of a fight "well you didnt let me have the wedding I wanted."? IMO its not worth the possible hurt/reprocussions of nixing it, it is his wedding too....However...is there an instrumental version of the song anywhere? (VSQ or otherwise), sometimes those sound a bit.....prettyier. I am using a sum41 song in my ceremony but its VSQ and when I ran it past my mom (played the song without telling her what it was) she said it sounds like a fun song to use, if she heard the original she would fall over with horror.

  • I say let it go.  Anyone who knows him will know that this is something he came up with and that you probably hate it.  They will chuckle or even laugh at him and then they will move on.  Grooms don't usually have very much say in how things are done, so let him have this one thing.  As PPs have said, you won't even have to hear it and maybe someone he knows will shame him into choosing something more appropriate.
  • I agree with PPs.

Its not just your wedding. Its his too. If you have a say in your choice song, then he should too.

Then again, I think regula canon D is completely boring. Which is why I live on the "Offbeat Board".

I do agree though, that you don't want that to be a cause for an arguement later. Fair is fair. As long as its appropriate lyric wise... I don't see the problem.
