No idea what I'm doing and need help

I'm having two brides maides in two piece outfits made from http://www.butterick.com/item/B5419.htm?tab=evening_prom_bridal&page=1 the skirts I think I want black, so they will wear it later.

I have no idea what color to make the tops out of.

Wedding colors are blue/slate gray and orange.

I'm also being a brides maid in my brides maid's wedding (her's is in three months, mine is in six months). I'm not making either of my two brides maids pay for thier dresses since I'm making them, but I'm going to have to buy the dress for her wedding. Money is a little tight since my fiance and I are paying for our wedding. I'm not sure what to do.

  • Why not make the tops black too? Keep it cohesive and flattering. . . It's likely you'll also save money on fabric since you can use what you get more efficiently.
  • Definitely black, or maybe the slate blue if you really want the top to be a different color.  I don't think orange would look very good.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I think orange and black would be too Halloween-y. I'd go for all black dresses, possibly with a blue sash if you want to work in your colors.

As far as buying the BM dress...that's pretty much the only thing a BM has to do. Your friend should ask you for your budget before she decides on a dress, but if she doesn't you might want to just let her know what your finances are like to avoid confusion down the line. While she should work with you to find something she likes and you can afford, if you genuinely cannot afford a dress (ie. you can only spend $10), you might have to decline being a BM.
  • I think black tops with the sashes in slate blue would be good.

ditto emily regarding your BM dress for your friend's wedding. exactly what she said.

  • Well, the financial issue for the dress is settled. It's going to be a late Christmas gift from future mother in law.

I've never been crazy on sashes, don't want to bring attention to my belly, but I will run it by them. It might end up being black so they can wear it to other events or with jeans later on in life.

    Thanks for the input.
