Brown suits for bridal party

Hello!!!

Ok... one of the colors for our wedding (10+1=11) is Mocha. Does anybody think it will be weird or "too 70's" as my friend put it, to have the guys wear Mocha with  granny apple smith green vests and ties?

BE HONEST!!!

Thanks ladies! Wink

Re: Brown suits for bridal party

  • As in brown suits/tuxes with green vests? I don't think so. Powder blue? Yeeeeeah. But brown, definitely not!
  • Oh, and if you're worried about too much of the green, you could do an ivory vest with the green tie.
  • I am not really a fan of that look, personally. There are plenty of other ways to work in the mocha: bouquet wraps, florals, paper, and other decor. If you did want to stick with the same color family, you might consider khaki suits.
  • You might want to put the green vests under hte mocha suit.  It may not look like you expect it to.  Brown suits are okay, its not like a pastel suit with giant mutton chop side burns, handlebar mustache, and long hair :)   Keep in mind that black will ALWAYS be in, and that when you look back you won't think "Brown?  what was I thinking?" like my parents did with their mint green full tuxedo

Also, for hte PP who recomended ivory vest and green tie:  You're running the risk of putting in ALOT of colors up in the chest area on the guys, and it can sometimes run together and look REALLY busy up there.   Sometimes the best solution is the simplest.

  • I also am not a fan of dark brown suits/tuxes.  I definitely would choose black or a lighter tan.  I would bring your colors in with the vest, ties, and boutonnieres.

  • Ivory would blend in with an ivory shirt, and the eye would go to the green tie. Just an idea.
  • I think I would stick with a khaki or black suit for the guys...I think brown might look dated in the future when you're looking back on your photos.

    I love dark brown tuxes.

We're using a dark brown by Calvin Klein.   It's amazing!  I'd say go for it.

Edit, here are some pics of the color tux we're using:

    Sorry they're so small!
  • What color are your BM dresses?  Apple green?
  • my groomsmen are wearing chocolate brown with a teal vest.  FI is wearing ivory vest.  you aren't going to look like you are from the 70s.
  • I love chocolate brown suits!! We are doing chocolate tuxes as well. Our accent color is green but it will only be in the flowers/bouts. The colors are chocolate and and latte.

Go to the store where you will be ordering the tuxes and experiment with a few different combinations...it will be fun even for your groom!

  • It's kinda hard to find chocolate suit rentals, at least I had trouble. I went with a khaki desination suit instead, with a brown shirt and orange tie.

I would definately look at the suits combination carefully before you choose anything. In your head you may have the perfect suit envisioned in the perfect color, but it's going to look different in real life.

  • Thanks Brittany! That's exactly what I thought! It's not like I am having them wear the frilly shirts either... lol I think the ivory would be great with the mocha, I just don't know if I should add another color... Actually, I am thinking of doing the whole fall palette... Mocha, granny apple smith, orange and crimson red (almost burgundy) The red would be flowers only and the orange would possibly be used for bridesmaids dresses. I don't know... Any suggestions on that??
  • Opalsky... That is another idea we are considering, Thanks to you! My fiance really likes gray but I thought mocha since it is one of the colors anyway... But khaki might be a nice compromise. Black is nice too but I'm not sure...
  • Tiffanee... Thanks! I certainly will put all the pieces together before we decide... I have to find a shop we both agree on though. And we do have a while... Your description, by the way, had me laughing pretty hard. lol =) I think the only thing I will look back and say "what was I thinking?" about is my weight. I really need to lose a preteen... Anyway, I think you have a valid point about the chest looking too busy with all the colors... You know what just came to mind? The guys are going to match my table and chairs... Crap!
  • Thanks Colleen. I may end up going that route since it just occurred to me that the guys would match my linen for the table and chairs! Yikes!

My other colors are crimson red (almost burgundy) but just for the flowers... (roses and anemones) Then a smidge of orange (I am painting pumpkins with glitter for the staircase). And ofcourse, mocha and granny apple smith are the main colors. Do you see any other combo that might work? Also, FI wants to wear a different vest than the other guys so people can tell him apart from the rest. Um Hello? I'm pretty sure they'll be able to tell =)
  • Thanks twilight... I'll keep that in mind. It's just hard to like black... :(

Hannah... Thanks for the pics. That suit looks nice! I like it! I am not sure about the bridesmaids dresses yet. They will probably be green. I was considering Orange for a minute... My colors are: crimson red (almost burgundy) but just for the flowers... • Thanks Jordan! And hey, I like your Colors!!
  • Thanks Broadway! That is a great idea. I just have to find a store we both like. I think we have one in mind.
  • Lynlovesjoe... You are absolutely right! I haven't found a store we both like yet, so I am not sure how difficult it will be to find the colors but thanks for the heads up. I kinda like the idea of a little orange... I thought about using it as my bridesmaids dress color...
