The Empire CLub in Little Neck NJ mis-represents themselves.

My fiance and I went to view The Empire Club in Little Neck NJ today, and were not only disappointed, but felt we had been lied to.  We were looking for a venue that could hold our 250 guests, had an outdoor venue for the wedding, and had a large enough banquet hall for everyone to be comfortable.  The Empire Club came up on TheKnot's list with those criteria, so we booked an appointment to see it, and drove the 75 minutes to see them.

1: The venue can only hold 180 for a standing room wedding, and the banquet hall would be too cramped with our guest list.

2: The outdoor garden is smaller than some yards I have seen on medium sized houses.  Neighboring houses are visable through the foliage. Their photography exagerates the size of the garden to the point of lying.

They are a nice enough venue for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, sweet 16, or a much smaller wedding, but they bill themselves as a much more sophisticated place than they are.

FI and I went to the Empire Clib and didn't have a good experience either.  Try looking at the Manor.

My Fi and I went to the Empires club as well and we were also disappointed. I second The Manor, also try Mayfair Farms in West Orange. GL

We weren't crazy about it either...the bar area was really nice, but outside of the ballroom. We also weren't overly excited about the fact that it is in such a residential area, or the outdoor space.

I second Mayfair Farms and the Manor in West Orange, they both have beautiful outdoor ceremony spaces!

    The town is Little Ferry.

I had briefly considered the Empire Club because it's a one-event-at-a-time venue, but I wasn't crazy about the photos of the decor.

Not sure about what kind of outdoor space Valley Regency in Clifton or Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack have, but these are one-event spaces you may want to consider. Stony Hill is off a busy highway, so it may not be a good idea if you want the ceremony outside.

It's in Little FERRY and I thought the outside was very misleading. However, the inside I thought was really nice, but the guy helping us was rude and he was rushing us to book the date and I didn't like that. Thank god we decided not to get married there.

My SIL actually got married there a few years ago and other than the fact that I disliked the location, I thought the place was fine. I mean it isn't the Pleasantdale Chateau or Venetian...but I would say it isn't the worst venue around.    I also wouldn't say it was the best food/service I have ever experienced at a wedding, but it certainly wasn't the worst.    Since then, they have re-done the place, and I hear it is much nicer.

I would say it would be a great venue for someone on a budget.

I almost booked this venue but FI convinced me not to. Which was the best thing! The tasting was alright, but not great. The owners seem unprofessional. The place is okay,  it's on the small side and it's smack in the middle of houses which is weird. I booked The Tides Estate for around the same price they were giving me at The Empire Club.

Yeah, take what you see online with a grain of salt, especially on third party websites and bridal magazines.  They are rarely accurate, especially with price.

I wouldn't say you were "lied to" unless they explicitly told you this information on their own website or on the phone.

The lesson learned is to check out a venue's website and ask questions on the phone before visiting, to make sure it's a place that meets your criteria.
