My Reception Site is Going Out of Business!!!!

So I got home tonight and saw my DJ emailed me and left me a voicemail.... sharing a newspaper article with me that my reception venue is closing and going out of business on Sunday!!!!!!  We already booked and put a deposit down at the Mill Race Inn in downtown Geneva.... so now I'm freaking out.

Anyone have any suggestions for new venues for me in the Geneva/St. Charles or Kane County area?

We already have our officiant, DJ, photographer, and ceremony sites booked so we'd like to stay in the area if at all possible.  Our ceremony site does have a full refund up until 60 days prior, so we could move if necessary, however our officiant is local.

Any of you knotties have any suggestions for me?  We are on a budget and pray we can find something on the same date for a similar price.  We are paying for most of the wedding ourselves.

So freaking out right now...

    1. Call the venue you already have. Maybe they plan to honor all current contracts. Maybe they are only declaring bankruptcy, not going out of business. Talk to someone. If no one answers, go down there and see what is up.

    2. Here are some venues in the area according to Chicago Style Weddings 2009
Pheasant Run Inn $70pp+ St. Charles
    Riverside Reception $38-75 pp Geneva
    Long Island Sound $25+ Aurora
    Gaslite Manor $26-65 Aurora

Those prices are probably outdated .

Thanks for the suggestions!  I spoke with the banquet director last night from Mill Race and they are going out of business.  She won't know until Monday if will get back my deposit.  She also gave me names of local businesses she's been in contact with to help out brides and people in our situation.    So now we're just looking and making as many phone calls as possible... this is crazy!

Did you sign a contract with them?? I would think the contract would say something regarding the deposit if something goes wrong on their end. There's gotta be some way to get that back...

Not to bud in but my soon to be SIL and brother had booked this same place.  There wedding was booked for next october.  They are in the same situation as you.  They have already called two other backups and they don't have their date opened.  Trying to help my brother out.

Yikes!  That really sucks.  I grew up in St. Charles and can't believe Mill Race is closing!  Kinda sad.

Anyway, I'm having my reception at the Gaslite manor and could not recommend it enough.  It is part of Banquet Pros that own the Lincoln Inn and The Courtyard.  They are great to work with.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!  We ended up booking Saturday afternoon with The Fox Valley Country Club in North Aurora.  The were able to work with us on the pricing a bit since we were getting a good deal originally with Mill Race and had worked our budget around that.  They had our date available amazingly enough since it's a Saturday.  We tried several of the other places suggested and no one had it but them.  We like the new venue a lot and we were able to keep our date and all of our other vendors.  Crisis has been averted.

Hdommy, tell your brother and SIL to check out Mill Creek, Prairie Landing, Eaglebrook, Fox Valley Country Club.  Margie at Mill Race gave me the contact info for all of those (except Mill Creek, I found them on my own).  All were very nice and very understanding of my situation and offered to help if they could.

I called Mill Race today and no one answered.  I'm trying to get in contact with them to get my security deposit back.  There isn't much on the contract in regards to this type of situation... who knew I'd need it with such a landmark like Mill Race?

Thank you & I will pass on the information. They live in the twin cities and are planning the wedding from afar. They are going down this weekend to checkout other venues. They haven't had any luck either getting their money back. Keep me posted on what you find out with your deposit and I'll pass it on to them or vice versa.
