HELP! Dress shop reliability... (a little long, sorry)

I bought my dress several months ago at what I thought was a reliable dress shop.  I bought it as soon as I tried it on, and in the excitement of everything I barely glanced at the tag.  I did see that there was a tag with a brand name in it, and a price tag, but when I got home I couldn't find the dress anywhere online.  There was a style number on the receipt, but when I looked it up it was a completely different dress!  I did get some cell phone photos so even though they're not great I can definitively compare what I see online with the picture.  I've been through the designer's collections from the past 7 years, and searched every way I can possibly think of, and it's just not coming up.
Should I be questioning why they lied about the style to me, and why it doesn't appear to be a part of any of the collections from the past 7 years, or could there be another explanation?  Has anyone else ever had a similar problem?

Thanks!!

  • It could be a style they only sell and show in bridal salons... HTH.
  • Have you tried contacting the dress shop?  Tell them you can't find the dress on the designer's website and you wanted to make sure it was the right one.

  • I would do what emisi said. Go right to the source, ask them to confirm your order, the designer and style number. Then make sure you can't find it and if you still can't, straight up ask them what's going on.

I've never heard of this happening but maybe it is what Danielle said. Stop worrying/stressing and make them give you some information! Definitely a little weird, though, I agree with you.

  • Some designers do infact only offer certain styles in certain areas. Demetrios is a good example. As a result- they don't show them online. I've also heard of Maggie Sottero doing this... but It was a matter of different countries (UK-Austalia-US)...

I too have come across other dresses that were only offered in stores. Its kind of frusterating because you don't have a picture to go back and refer to.

What designer is it? Or what is it suppose to be?
  • I called the shop, and apparently it IS the style number that's on the receipt. only the owner of the shop didn't like a (major) detail of the dress and had it removed before I tried it on.

So it is the same but different, in a way!

Thanks for all your help, and I guess that's something to keep in mind while dress shopping...bridal shops might take the liberty of changing around a dress you saw online or elsewhere.  Watch out for that, and good luck everyone! :-)
