Searching for a venue

Hi ladies! I'm new to the board and could use your help with finding a wedding venue. My fiance and I are recently engaged and planning to get married September 2013. We are searching for a non-traditional venue, big chandeliers and marble floors are beautiful but not really our style.

We're simple and kind of minimalist. We would be more than happy to dress up a plain white tent and we're suckers for water views or anything with gardens. Our guests are mostly from Mahopac and Pelham so it would be swell if it were in between but feel free to suggest other places!

This wedding at Buttermilk Falls Inn is beautiful for inspiration, unfortunately the venue is a bit too far north for us http://www.danielkrieger.com/wedding-photography/buttermilk-falls-inn-an-upstate-wedding

Looking forward to your response!

I felt the same way and my fiance and I just booked The Marros in Rye. The catering company works out of a bunch of different venues. <a href="http://www.jean-jacques.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.jean-jacques.com/</a>

    Thanks for your responses. =]

The colonial terrace is a great suggestion, however my family has been there for 3 or 4 receptions in the last few years.  Almost all of my cousins chose it so I want to do something a little different.

I'm going to look into the Morros too, looks super cute.  Jean Jacques has so many venues so even if that one doesn't work maybe they can accomodate us with something else.

You need to check out the Coveleigh Club in Rye, NY.  It is so beautiful, right on the water and you can get married there in the garden too.  Plus their food is delicious and their prices are reasonable.

<div>Funny you recommend the Coveleigh Club, I called them today and left a message for their general manager. Based on the location and asthetic, it's one of our top choices, pretty much looks perfect for us.  I hope the pricing will work for my budget.  I came across <a rel="nofollow" href="http://lorussostudios.com/coveleigh-club-rye-ny-wedding-kate-jim/" title="these photos">these photos</a> and love the view from the dining area as well as the last photo of the couple under the beach pavillion.  I'm curious about what the garden reception looks like and what their backup location is in case of rain.</div><div>

<div>The general manager invited me for a tour this saturday, isn't that your date there?  He thought it would be a good idea to check out the venue while it's set up for a wedding, unforunately I'm not available, but that's such a weird coincidence!</div><div>

That's so funny!  We got married on 9/15/12, and the set up was beautiful!  If you would like pictures at all, PM me and I will send you some once we get them.

You should also try Christos http://www.christoscatering.com/

We were very pleased with Christos in Poughkeepsie, and the price was reasonable.  It has a Country Club feel and the food is wonderful. You can negotiate a package that suits your budget and needs.  Chris tells you the price per guest, and that is the price you pay, including cake, table flowers, tax and tip.  Go to Christos!! Tell him Toni told you.. ;o)

Matt & I just had our wedding at Christos 9/23/12. Wow. The place is as immaculate as it is beautiful and elegant. The food was outrageous and bountiful. The filet was scrumptious -- Chris is very personal during the whole night. The grounds are stunning for pictures. The ceremony room needs very little decor since it is surrounded by walls of windows overlooking the lovely golf course. Everyone raved about it the whole night. Bathrooms are very tasteful and clean. The bridal room is spacious and comfortable. Even the cake cart is pretty.  If you are getting married or will be having any kind of event at all... this is the place to have it. So glad I chose Christos... it is truly an anointed place.

    if you're serious about non-traditional.....
we're getting married next week at the Norwalk Aquarium. We also considered the Bronx Zoo (which lets you do cocktails by the seals in nice weather). The staff at Norwalk could not bend over backwards any more without elective surgery, they've been nothing shy of phenomenal.
