    Hi Cape May Brides!

I was married at Congress Hall a few years ago.  I live in CM in the summers and am very familiar with the town and vendors if you need any recommendations!  You can reach me here or via christyw@aquacal.com.

    Happy Planning!

Hey everyone!  Possible Cape May bride here....we are thinking of a summer wedding at Congress Hall, only it will be on a Monday because the are willing to work withour minimum since we live 4 hours away.  Is there anyone else out there that had a Congress Hall wedding during the week OR planned a Cape May Wedding from a distance?
  • edited December 2011
Hi! I'm only an hour and 45 minutes away. We're holding our ceremony in Cape May Courthouse at Our Lady of Angels Church and our reception at the Alcott.  The planning has been pretty easy - we just try and schedule things on the same day so we dont have to make a million trips down :) Plus, its summer so its a good excuse to get to the beach!

Congress Hall is GORGEOUS - was just there for lunch when my mom and I went down to look at flowers.

    Happy planning :)

At first I was thinking about having my wedding at the Southern Mansion but then I visited Congress Hall yesterday and I can't stop thinking about it. It is so beautiful and I most definitely have to have my wedding there. I am waiting to hear from Stephanie tomorrow to hear more information. Do you have information about the packages and prices?

Hey! I'm looking into getting married in Cape May too next summer. My family vacations there every summer so it's very near and dear to my heart. I have been planning a wedding in my hometown but can't stop thinking about getting married in Cape May. I always wanted to as a little girl <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" /> I live about 5 and 1/2 hours away so I'm in the same boat as you are as far as planning from a distance. I've been doing some research into Congress Hall, Peter Shields, Grand Hotel, and Union Park, as well as a few others. I'm actually thinking about doing a midweek wedding too because if we do plan a wedding in Cape May everyone would come down for the week and stay anyway. I would love to know what info. you found out about having a midweek wedding at Congress Hall. It's beautiful there!

Thank you for your responses!  I wasn't sure if I got an email or what when people respond!  I can send anyone the pricing information Congress Hall sent me for a wedding during the week if you send me a private message with your email.  The onyle problem for me is that I live 4 hours away and the only place I visited and LOVED was Congress Hall.  If you had a wedding during the week (Mon-Wed) their minimum was 100, which is not bad, except for us, who wanted a relatively small wedding :( Does anyone else have any recommenedations?  I am a very picky food eater (I like good food) and want a place that doesn't feel dated.  Congress Hall is perfect for me...minus the minimum.
@MelissaC - So glad we are in the same boat with the distance!

Did anyone ever have a wedding in Cape May in November through March on the beach?  Just wondering what the weather was like and if it was worth it...
  • edited December 2011

Hi, I’m new to the site and I been looking around for venues. I am looking to have a summer wedding with just close family and friends possible 40-50 people (if that). We were looking for a low cost reception and possibly a beach wedding. Can anyone recommend any venues? Anyone have any info on Union Park? Lobster House? I heard they weren’t too crazy in price.  Thanks so much!

jillrph - i live in the area and the weather in those months can be really iffy. sometimes it is still on the milder side (though people would likely need coats even on those days) and sometimes super cold late fall/winter weather. if you had a really short ceemony and hardy guests, it could be a neat experience!

awalsh - the cake from Victory was not terrible, it was just kinda neutral. If you don't care much about dessert, then it is probably fine. but if you love cake, like i do, then you might want something from somewhere else. however, their fondue chocolate was yummers and the little desserts wre pretty good too.

we also considered cape may bakers (we did not do a tasting, but they were very nice to talk to) and ellie's in west cape may, which is an awesome bakery, sooo good! we ultimately deciced to go with OC Cake Studio in Ocean City (where we currently live, though about to move to CM!). They have the coolest flavors and the cake was literally some of the best cake I have ever eaten! They are mucho $$, so it's a slurge for us, but I love me some wedding cake!

Hi everyone, possible Cape May bride here as well! I have to make a decision between Cape May and Jim Thorpe (I live outside of Philadelphia), as both places mean a lot to my fiancee and I. Anyways, I'm wondering if any of you had checked out the Grand as a possible reception place. What did you like/not like about it? I haven't talked pricing yet with Amelia (the coordinator at the Grand), but I'm wondering if it's in the same price range as Congress Hall? If so, I'm worried it may be too expensive. I think Congress Hall is gorgeous, but unfortunately out of our budget :(
Another question I had is for all of you doing a ceremony on the beach- are you planning on walking barefoot, or using flip-flops, sandals, etc? I'm just a little worried about having issues walking or my dress dragging in the sand...

Hello Ladies! I'm a bit late to this thread... I'm getting married at the Hotel Alcott this October. Does anyone have any suggestions on makeup artists or hairstylists??? I tend to be a pain in the butt when it comes to my hair and I just experienced a HORRIBLE hair trial at a salon in Wildwood. At this point I'm just going to end up doing my own hair. I just really wanted a stress free day.... The other issue i'm having is I need to find someone within budget. Everything is so insanely priced and my fiance' and I are footing the bill for this whole thing.... Help!

    Hi Ladies!

This post came up when I googled Cape May.  I wonder if any of you still check The Knot and would be willing to share your experience with me.  I'm getting married in Cape May in September 2012 at the Corinthian Yacht Club.  Colors are turquois, peacock and coral, beige accent.  Wedding will be on the beach, likely Mt Vernon :)

What I am working through now that I could really use some advice and recommendations on is booking a wedding band and a photographer.  We are trying to stay within a budget and most of the bands I've researched are in the $5000-7000 range, way too much for us.  But we feel strongly about a band...anyone know good ones in the $2000-4000 range?  Did you use a band?  Also, what photographers did you go with and what were the price ranges?  We were hoping to stick to around $2000.

Any help is greatly appreciated and congrats on being done this whole crazy process and getting to enjoy marriage!  :)

I've been going to Cape May for the summer since I was 3! I just love it and always knew I had to get married there.

I'm getting married at the Corinthian Yacht Club, Sept. 21, 2013. Has anyone else had their wedding there? Or is planning one for there?

I need advice on liquor distributors! I'm still in the VERY early planning but I like to be ahead of the game :)

Has anyone hired a valet service for a wedding in Cape May?  I'm looking for a vendor and cost estimate.  The venue I'm considering does not have any parking and I do not want my guests driving around to look for parking.  Thanks!
  • Hello everyone,

i am recently engaged (xmas eve) and am looking into a capemay beach wedding. we are looking at the union park and that seems to be the most in our budget that i have foun so far, but wanted to see if anyone knew any other reasonable places for a reception that will average out to about 75 or less per person? we are keeping the wedding small with about 40-45 people. and any oher recommendations for reasonable vendors would be greatly appreciated, please feel free to contact me by email at mkat469@gmail.com with cape may bride in the subject line so that i know its not spam mail ;) sadly i lost touch with alot of my GF's after my son was born and only 1 of my close gf's are married and she went to vegas so all of my research has been made on the boards and websites.

    congrats to everyone ;)

  • Hello Ladies! I feel so lucky to have found this forum. Since the age of 9 I grew up going to Cape May in the summers so obviously it is very near & dear to my heart & where I've always thought i would get married. I was there yesterday to show my Fi how wonderful Cape May & the Congress Hall are... He liked it very much so now hoping to be able to be a Cape May bride in 2013! We are down to 2 locations Congress Hall & the Gateway Clipper in Pittsburgh as my Fi is originally from there. Both awesome locations but the decision will come down to overall expense of course. If we do decide Congress Hall, I was wondering if anyone would recommend the best time to have an outside wedding... March vs. April, April vs. September. I'm looking to stay out of the in-season since all of us will be from OOT & do a Friday/Sunday wedding due to minimums. Does anyone know if you can get married by the lighthouse? Also, if any of you have good referrals for dj, florist, & price ranges will be very helpful to figure in those costs for our budget. Thank you and Happy planning!
  • I'm so happy to have found this board!  We are getting married in Cape May April 27, 2013.  I am curious if any of the Southern Mansion ladies would be willing to share their bar costs?  We haven't priced it out yet, and I am curious what others have experienced. I'm also wondering if you did or did not opt to do wine at dinner.

    Thanks!

Hey! If all don't mind sharing, how are these venues with working with a budget? Do you know their average $ pp? We are planning for an August or Sept 2013 wedding. We will have between 120 and 150 guests, still working on that. He just proposed end of January. :-) We want to do a Sat night wedding. If we could get a Sunday rate for labor day weekend, that would rock too. (He's military, so we might be able to get a discount. Maybe?) Thanks for sharing anything you can! :-) If we do a shore wedding, we definitely want it right by the beach.
