March 2012 Weddings

I know it shouldn't, but this is freaking me out...

A Costa cruise ship ran aground and is sinking in Italy tonight.  Eight people have been confirmed dead and at last update they were still trying to locate 200 more.  My heart just breaks for those victims and their families.  Every time Iry to close my eyes I just keep thinking of what it must have been like onboard that ship tonight (well, last night now).  It's kind of freaking me out because I keep putting my family on that ship in my head and just the thought of my nephew is what's freaking me out.  There were little kids on that cruise and I just can't imagine that!

I've cruised before and have never had an issue, but hearing stuff like this always freaks me out.  This is why I can't watch movies involving plane crashes within two weeks of flying!

Probably won't be sleeping much tonight...  Those poor, poor people!

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • aww i woke up and saw the same thing! so sad! i have been on 4 cruises and love it. we did have a mini issue this summer when sailed this summer from New York to Bermuda (i have done this cruise all four times but on two different lines) in that while we were there hurricane Irene was forming.  We still had beautiful weather while we were there but the captain of our ship did choose to leave a day early to stay ahead of the storm.  they were great at keeping us updated as well as the staff so that we were not worried and so that our families back home werent either (they had a hotline for them to call in to get details) and of course we had internet so was able to FB chat our parents.

WHat cruise line are you using and where are you going?

I am still not sure how this happened to Costa...I guess we will see as more details emerge-they have so much equipment  on these ships i'm sure that once they figure it out all other lines will take extra precautionary to make sure it never happens again. so dont worry too much

  • I just saw the story and thought of you all! You have to think about how few times this happens. Try not to worry!
  • I just saw about this.. This is so scary!! We were going to go on a cruise, But now FI doesnt want to go after seeing this.. I told FI we shouldnt NOT go because of this.  It only happens so few times. But I feel really bad for all of those people.  I hope everyone will be found and everyone will be okay!

  • We're going on Royal Caribbean. The only thing I think that's really happened on an RCI ship is that the Monarch ran aground intentionally to stop an oil leak a few years back.  There wasn't chaos and everyone was evacuated safely but... man!  Still scary!

We were supposed to be on Splendor ONE WEEK after the fire onboard that left it stranded.  That was kind of a strange thought, but in that case no one died and it was more of a really big inconvinience.  But this... people died and it sounds like the Captain just abandoned ship.... how horrible!

And actually, someone just told me that the Costa ship and the Splendor are sister ships- same design and everything.  I don't really believe in "doomed ships", but I will think twice about going on the Splendor for our honeymoon now!
