In Response to Re: Sunday Evening! : Yeah, it's a bunch of little things that really are different. I imagine it'll probably be a little more pronounced going from the US to England (I know half the reason H wanted me to move here instead of going to Canada was the thought of paying that much in taxes made him want to pass out, lol)But I won't lie, those little things, for me at least, were rough for a couple of months after they all started to pile up. But he's worth it, so you adjust and then everything starts getting awesome again =D

<div>Well fortunately I've been over there three times and spent the past two summers there so it won't be TOTAL culture shock. But I know I'll miss all those little familiar things.</div>
• In Response to Re:Sunday Evening!:
The apartment is good. nbsp;I found the mailboxes today. nbsp; And went to Ikea for cheap kitchen stuff. nbsp;PSA a can opener for 1.49 doesn't work worth a damn. nbsp;it's in the garbage already and I will buy a better one tomorrow somewhere. nbsp;H should get time off starting 5/6 so he's got a ticket booked to fly home, and then it will take him a day to pack up and two days to drive, so that Wednesday or Thursday I should have furniture again. nbsp;Tomorrow I start my new job. nbsp;I'm a little nervous. nbsp; Not really excited. nbsp;iI's actually a step back about 5 years for me, and a pay cut in hourly wage by about 30, plus I went from full time to part time... but it's an interesting industry, medical is big out here, and it will give me the flexibility to have more time off when H is home. nbsp; And there's a really good chance the hours will grow into full time in the next year or two... but even at 40 hours, it's a pretty big pay cut. : Posted by Loopyseven
That sucks about the pay cut. Is there room for advancement? It's good that you'll have more time with H though. What does he do?

<div>Yeah, I had spent a year here before that, but I didn't have to deal with health insurance during that time, lol. That was definitely one of the biggest things for me. Enjoy socialism! </div>
• I agree with Any - I think US to England will have more differences to get used to.  At least they speak the language, but they really do have a different culture in a lot of ways, I think.  A wholly different history.  I lived in Canada for 2 years in grade school and there were annoying differences to an 11 year old (like extra 'u's on spelling tests LOL), but nothing too serious.  There's probably more stuff as an adult that you don't worry about as a kid.
• Evening, if anyone is still around! I've had a very lazy Sunday after a busy Saturday. H and I are watching Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and doing laundry. It got up to 80 degrees today and our house is at least 85. We've been sweating it out all day. Ugh. I do love warm weather, but hot damn, it should not be 80 yet.
• H is a field engineer for an oil company.  So he spends three-four weeks at a time at oil rigs anywhere in the Rocky Mountain territory, and then he gets 7-10 days off to come home.

The company is growing - so I'm not sure what opportunities there will be for advancement, but there may very well be some.
• Oh, I know that England is more different to the US than Canada - I just meant that there are so many similarities between the two cultures as well as so many differences.

The taxes over there are going to be a big headache - but not for me. As an employee of a business you don't actually file every year. But FI owns his own business and figuring all of that out will be a mess to me.

I know that the housing market will be confusing to me when we finally are ready to buy a home.

Not being able to drive is looking like the absolute biggest thing to me. I mean, not only are they on the wrong side of the road - they're in the wrong side of the car!!! Plus I can't drive a stick, which is basically all they've got out there. I know, silly of me to have never learned, but there it is.

Also - the stove works differently over there. Like, they don't have high, medium, and low on their knobs. They have gas mark numbers. And recycling isn't optional. It's going to be an adjustment >.<

• Hey Erin. I'm jealous, it was in the 50s and rainy here today. I wish it would get warm and stay warm. Also, I really enjoyed that movie. I didn't think I would because I read it was really violent but it wasn't too bad aside from that one scene, obviously.

• I am watching The Good Wife.  The Amazing Race just ended.

</div><div>Haha, I remember looking at H with horror as he threw a glass bottle into the trash. It's so weird not having blue boxes everywhere.

<div>Oh don't get me wrong, I'm all for mandatory recycling. It's just going to be different. </div>
• Recycling probably shouldn't be optional anywhere, although that would be such an adjustment. I'm ashamed to say I don't give a second thought to tossing glass and plastic into the trash.

<div>Thanks - I figure I'll have lots of time to mod the e-board with him gone so much LOL.  </div><div>
</div><div>Hopefully after a few years of field work he can move to the office and have a normal schedule again.  It's a matter of putting in his time and doing well/learning a lot.</div>
• Loopy - it'll happen. And it will be worth the work : )
• Yeah - and this job is why we got to move to CO, which we've been talking about since we started dating 8 years ago.  So, it's a means to an end and we just remember that.  We talk ever day, and make a point to do special stuff for just us when we are together.

<div>Yeah, H would probably do the same if it meant we got to move to CO. He reaaaally likes it out there.</div>
• That's great : )

Do you guys use skype or vonage or do you have a really good cell phone plan?
• We both have iPhones so when he has good internet, we use FaceTime.  Before I had an iPhone we wouold sometimes Skype but sometimes the internet service is bad so the video doesn't work well.  He's usually in the middle of nowhere, so sometimes the internet is less than stellar, and sometimes the cell service is less than stellar.  It's so annoying when he drops the call every 4 minutes unless he stands precisely in the right spot by the window LOL.
• Ugh, that sounds like such a pain. I can imagine that the internet would be sketchy on an oil rig.
• Okay, it's time for someone to get to bed! Have a good night everyone.
• Good night!
• I'm home now... and super annoyed at FI, but at least I can relax in my PJs now. Has everyone gone to bed?
