when should I shop for my dress?

My wedding is in 7 mos, and I'm trying to lose a little weight.
Should I get my dress now, then have it altered later if I lose the weight, or should I wait?

I would start looking now because it's easy to have the dress taken in. Sometimes it may take up to 16 weeks to get an ordered dress back, so the sooner you start looking, the sooner you'll have the dress.

I agree. You should start looking now.  When you find a dress you like, ask the consultant if it will be easy to take in. Also, when you try it on if it is a little tight, it might be just right. You can also figure out about how much you have been losing a week and go from their.

I would look now...the dress I ended up ordering takes 4-6 months to come in. If you are buying off the rack you don't have to go right now, but any qualified seamstress should be able to take in your dress if you lose weight beween now and then.

Do you want to post this on the dress board? You'll get more responses there than over here on Food & Cakes...
  • I agree with the others tha thave answered--- you need to go now.  Depending on what you pick, it could take months to get it in.

  • Start shopping now.  Most places recommend havin 4-6 monthes to order a wedding dress.  It is always easier to have a gown taken in rather than let out.  Don't bank on loosing the weight.  I use to work in a bridal salon and I couldn't tell you the number of brides that were planning loosing weight and ordered their dress to the size that they wanted to be verse the size that they are... you don't want to deal with the extra stress of your gown not fitting!
