I can't see them either.

I was actually going to page you because of that abandoned places thread last night. There is a town in PA, right next to my friends town, that has been abandoned by all people except like 8 or 9. An underground coal mine caught on fire in the 60's and they could never put it out. Now the town is basically empty and the government took it over. There is smoke still coming from the ground and cracks in the road because the mine is still on fire. The people who stay say they think it's a government conspiracy.

The movie Silent Hill was based on the video game, I thought. So was the video game based on that town, or did they change the location for the movie?

In any case, I'm off to Target to pick up a prescription then spending the day cleaning and working. I might do some sites from home to make a little extra money. Or I might just watch TV and read.

It was. Creepy game, creepy movie. We want to explore Centralia so badly, but I'm afraid of the toxic fumes and, you know, falling through the ground.

ETA: Sesh - yes, the video game was based on the town, and the movie was based on the game.

I have an incredibly over active imagination so I would scare the hell out of myself just imagining all the possible horrors that could happen. I freak myself out in my own back yard when I take the dog out at night alone. Ive told the story about thinking someone was sawing through the roof so they could break in without tripping the alarm system so I set a booby trap and stayed up until 3 am in the dark waiting for them to come in. Im my own worst enemy.

The college I went to is housed in a Gilded Age hotel. It was amazing going there for several reasons and I even enjoyed the one semester I lived in the dorms which were in the old hotel itself.

One of the neatest things was this "secret" off limits set of back stairs that would take you up to the abandoned ballroom. The room itself was locked but there were enough cracks in the door that you could see in. Last I heard they may actually be renovating the ballroom which is a mixed blessing in my mind. I liked it being all old and creepy. This article has a slideshow of pictures.

I hated being there around holidays when most people were gone. I felt like I was in the Shining.

I do similar things. I mean, I've never booby trapped the roof, but I psych myself out so easily. I won't look through windows in the middle of the night, I won't look in mirrors in the middle of night (worst fear: washing my face orbrushing my teeth or something else and looking up to see someone stnding behind me in the mirror), every little noise is someone walking around, etc. I'm so ridiculous.
