Looking for a bakery

Hi all,

Our wedding is a little more than five months away. We are getting married in San Francisco at the end of June. My most immediate question is how far in advance do we need to book a bakery?

I am currently working every Sat and most places I have looked at offer tastings on Saturdays. In a month or so, I'll be moving to a normal M-F schedule. So should I wait until then before we go to tastings or should we book one ASAP? We just got engaged so we are trying to get the big things done.

The cake is very important and I don't want to wait too long and have everyone already booked up for summer weddings. Thanks for any advice!

Re: Looking for a bakery

  • I would go as soon as you can, just to be safe. We waited until only a couple months before (maybe even a month, I don't remember) b/c we were doing cupcakes, but if we had been doing a full cake, it would have been high on my priority list b/c I would have wanted to make sure it was perfect!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • okay! i should clarify and say the cake is important to me. my fiance doesn't really care for cake, so i am a little hesistant to let her go by herself to choose the flavors and design. i am thinking of maybe getting another friend to go with her instead of me.
  • Yep.  Go now.  I booked about 5 months in advance with no problems, but some bakeries only do 2-3 deliveries a day. You'll want to secure your date.

I don't know where you are looking, but consider Virginia Bakery in Berkeley. they were AMAZING..  tasted SO much better than any other cake I tasted.  I'm not sure they deliver to SF though, but if they do, and even if they charge a higher delivery fee, it will be worth it. Their prices were crazy reasonable.
