Will I Have time?

I'm getting married in December of 2012. My family lives out of town (and I don't really have any girlfriends where I live). My mother is coming to visit in mid-May, so I was planning on waiting until then to do my dress shopping with her. That gives me about seven months before the wedding. Is that typically enough time to shop? I doubt I'm a sample size, so I'd likely have to order.

Re: Will I Have time?

  • I think you should call up the places you plan on visiting while you're mom's in town and ask them this question.  You might just make the normal delivery deadline but be prepared that you may also have to pay a rush fee.

  • That's 7 months before your wedding date. Plenty of time.

  • Most places (most) not all are about 12-16 weeks on delivery time. Then  you need time for alterations.

  • I think that will be enough time. Would you be interested in going by yourself one afternoon to try on some dresses and get an idea of what you like/don't like before your mom comes down?

  • That's enough time.  I ordered my dress in October for my May wedding = 7 months!

Alterations don't take months and months.  That's one of the biggest misconceptions I see on this board.
  • Kate: I might actually do that so that so I can narrow down the shops, and some styles. Where I live, there are 2 David's, plus a ton of local stores. Thanks!

    Thanks, everyone!
  • I can only speak for David's Bridal but 7 months is plenty of time. My dress came in 2 weeks after we ordered it. They said alterations would take 4-6 weeks so I haven't even taken mine in to be altered yet and I'm getting married in May. :) If you go somewhere else, it may be different so I would call and ask. :)
