Dress Fittings for OOT Wedding

I'll try and make this as brief as possible:

I live in Boston, but grew up in Chicago and that's where the wedding will be.  I bought my dress in Chicago with my mom right after I got engaged in February, and it should be in in the next month or so.  Wedding is in October.

I thought I was going to be able to get back to Chicago multiple times this summer/early fall before the wedding, but I've had some work/health issues, and it might not be as easy to fly out for fittings.

So the question:  Should I have the dress shipped here to Boston so I can do fittings here and then bring it back with me for the wedding, or just try to fly back?  For those of you that have shipped wedding dresses, how much does it cost?

    I would leave it in Chicago.

    I'm an OOT bride as well, and my dress resides with my parents in the city we are getting married.

    Have you had any kind of alterations consultation?

    I don't need major alterations, so I only need to go in twice - once 2 months before the wedding, and another time the week of for last minute alterations.

    With all the other crap I need to worry about shipping and transporting, I wouldn't want to add my dress to that list. I would just fly out a few times.
