STD Question

So I have a few people on my guest lists that are big questions as we whether they are actually going to be invited.  One is a friend that I don't have a great connection with anymore, a few others are my Fi's work people that are sort of courtesy invites.  I have an appt with a stationary/invitiation company on Monday so should I include these people in the total number of invites I will be sending out?  I know if I send them STD then they require a invite....

Yes, a STD=an invite so if you're not sure right now, don't send them anything at this time.

  • Don't send anything to them right now.  Since you don't HAVE to send an STD to them, just wait.
  • Adding on, you're going to need to order some extra invites anyway for mistakes, one to keep for yourself, etc. so depending on how much they cost, you could go ahead and put even a few more into the order, just in case.

  • If you are this unsure, for now...I say don't order a STD for them, but you should order extra invites. Because maybe they can be your "B list" and if some people decline and cannot make it to your wedding, you could send invites to the guests you were unsure about. Good luck!
  • I agree with pps, order extra invites just in case. You do not have to send a save the date to people you invite to the wedding, but you do have to invite the people you send the STD to.

Your wedding is in December 2010, so are you ordering the save the dates now or the actual invitations? I would hold off on invites until around the six month mark or later. You could alter your guest list in that amount of time, and if you get the wrong number of invites this early on, you could end of paying a big price later on to order more.

  • Thanks for all the advice. No I am just going to look at options for Save the dates and maybe get some ideas for invites also.  I have been looking online at STD and invites at like vistaprint but didn't see any I liked so going to get more ideas and get some pricing estimates also.  I will probably order the Save the dates in jan/feb and order the invites this summer.
  • In my store, we recommend ordering 25 more of everything in your ensemble with an ADDITIONAL set of envelopes. So if you're ordering 50 of everything, make that 75 and then add 25 more envelopes. If you're handwriting, getting them calligraphied or printed, you'll save yourself, the calligrapher or the printer a lot of time by having extras in case of mistakes.

I'm only doing announcements myself...I was going to DIY my invites, but then I changed my mind about having a big to-do and am just going to Vegas with close family and a couple friends.

Most people I work with will order less STDs than their invitations anyway. And they generally only send them to out of town guests that need time to make plans.
