It doesn't necessarily have to be done when your STD's go out.  But I wouldn't wait until a month before your shower either.  Ya know.

I am doing my save the dates in the next month and I did my registry before. I wanted to include my website in the save the dates and have all info up but if you just have a website and registry is TBD for a little bit I don't think its the end of the world.

I registered before my STD. I wanted everyone to have all info on my website to make it easier for them.

I don't think its necessary for the STD, you don't want to overload them with registry like you're begging for gifts, and truth be told, people are probably going to wait til the last minute anyways. Definitely for the shower. Funny story, my BM didn't include my registry in the shower invites, doesn't matter I sent one out with the original invites (I know some people are going to freak when they see that, oh well like it's a BIG secret you take presents to a wedding). Oh btw I am 3 weeks away from the wedding and we added and changed stuff a few ago lol

I had mine done, because I included the wedding website on the STD, but you can just start your registry with a couple items (you can even do this online, from home) just so your guest know where you're registered when they first go to look at your website, rather than not having a registry store listed at all. Don't sweat it though; you don't need a completed registry right away.
