so you are telling me that if you did this, you wouldnt bug your guests and say things like think of my wedding as your vacation or it is easier for OOT guests, or anything like that?

Cause I had 2 friends do this, and one was so bad about it, that I ended up changing my vacation plans cause he basically said if I didnt show he wouldnt be friends with me anymore.

No, I wouldn't de-friend someone because they weren't coming to my wedding.  Sounds like you have sh*tty friends.

I agree with Victoria. No matter how you slice it you're going to inconvenience SOMEONE, whether it's a gap (which I believe you will have as you're getting married in a church) or something else. You can NOT please everyone. You most certainly of all can not be pleased, ever.
And as for dresses, I certainly didn't buy into the Say Yes to the Dress nonsense. In fact, if you read my post I said I know personally of no one but MYSELF who bought a dress for $500. (Actually, I thought of another person but it was a sample so does that count as new? Probably not, thus why I said new dress)
I've been to Group USA/Camille and their dresses left a lot to be desired IMO. Even one of my best friends who purchased her dress at David's Bridal, who is well-known for affordable dresses, spent $700. $500 is simply not a realistic price for MOST wedding dresses, even discounted ones.
And when you add in the cost of alterations, I am sure your coworker or whatever is spending more than $350 all together. My alterations I happened to get for free, so my true and final cost was $499.99.

Brad- could you cut your budget by getting rid of the personalized cartoon video of the two of you? Personally I would rather have a nicer dress than a cartoon video of myself.

<div>We got married on Saturday of Labor Day weekend (for no reason other than the weather being nice at that time of year and the weekend after being already booked at our venue -- we did not save money).  I didn't say anything like that to anyone.  Why would a trip to Gladstone, NJ be anyone's vacation regardless of date?  I do think it was easier for our sizable number of out of town guests, who probably preferred having the extra day to fly back to Georgia or London or wherever.  We had a bunch of friends who were going to be going to the Hamptons or the Shore the next day, but (a) they went on Sunday and still had two days there, and (b) that would have been the case every weekend because these were people who go every week (and in fact, having our Saturday night wedding any normal-length summer weekend would have "ruined" their weekend at the beach because they wouldn't go out for a non-overnight).</div><div>
</div><div>But at any rate, I didn't say anything to anyone about why it was a better or worse day than any other.  I sent save the dates a year ahead of time, and whoever came came (And I don't think any of our nos were vacation-related ... most were distance related.)</div>

Brad, I didn't take anything away from you. I asked a question politely and with genuine curiosity, since your OP had nothing about why you disliked these situations.  Do you treat people in your real life with such unwarranted hostility?  Eat sh1t.
