question about ceremony/reception time..

one of my friend/bm is driving me kinda nuts (more then just the following question)

She asked me about the ceremony time since i finally booked the church.  and I said 4 pm.  (plus its on a Friday and some people may work still instead of taking a full day off)

Her response was that it was very late for a ceremony and for a wedding to get started.  Every wedding I have been to as an "adult" has started late due to it either being Friday (like mine) or if the ceremony was at the reception hall.

I guess my question is, is this too late for a Friday Ceremony??  Or is she just being a brat.

Where is your ceremony?  Ours is a 4:00p start because that is the earliest that St. Al's would do it on a Friday.  Plus if you think about it, receptions last late into the night anyway.

its at a church  the priest suggest 4 or 5 pm start time for a Friday night.  and i thought that was normal b.c of weddings I have been to.  But now my friend is making me doubt myself.

She's been very critical lately though... :/  its frustrating.

We are doing a Friday as well and are doing a 5pm ceremony. We did it late since it was a Fri and decided to do pics before the ceremony so we don't have a long break between Ceremony & Reception. So I would say you are JUST fine!

Plus, if guests work, they don't have to take a whole day off of work if they don't want!

I actually think it's early for a Friday. I'm getting married on a Friday and having the ceremony at 6pm. We're also doing ceremony and reception at the same location, and photos beforehand. I don't think even on a Saturday that the time is too late though, many evening receptions go late, and better too if there's not a long gap.

^^ we have the same date.

I just think this friend is just being urm jealous or critical.  2 of her bf are getting married (i would be 1) and I do not think she is dealing....or maybe her sisters and other friends all had early weddings....idk

I think it's fine.  Will guests go straight from your ceremony to your reception?

I think it'd be strange to have it any earlier than 4pm on a Friday.  Like pp's said, even 5 or 6 seems norm on a Friday.

Agreed. 4:00 p.m. would be the earliest I would do. You're totally fine.

Wow, 4 PM... that seems early to me for a Friday. I would love to do it that early, but since our ceremony/reception is in Chicago (complete with Friday traffic), we're doing our ceremony at 6 PM.

And honestly, it's **your** wedding. If you want to have it at 4 in the morning, then do it. :D

My Friday ceremony will start at 6:30 PM, with guests arriving around 6 PM... I agree with PP's that 4 PM actually seems a bit early, and is not at all "too late", especially given many of your guests may choose to travel or work that morning...

The reception is actually 30 min away so  I am concerned about traffic and such.  I originally wanted 4:30 or 5 and I may still change it because the church is really flexible with the time.

This has been bothering me so much lol not the actual question but her negativity...she keeps telling me that I better hope it does not snow...WTF (and she does not say it a helpful concerned way..just a told you so way..)

She has been my topic of the day (aka I have asked for everyone's opinion about this/her lol)

That really sucks about your friend's attidue. It sucks that she can't be more supportive, or at least not be so openly negative about your plans. Maybe just expalin to her that you are doing your best to accomodate everyone's needs and a later wedding makes sense for you, your FI, your family, guests, etc., and you're sorry she doesn't agree, but that's how it is. I wish I had better advice for you, but at least everyone here agrees that you are right.

I just have been vague when she is being negative.  I really do not even bring up the wedding with her unless she brings it up because of this.  (sad right..)  Maybe if I am more responsive in the way you suggested it will make her realize that she is being annoying.

    Thanks for all the advice/support/listening.

Its funny to bc I expected her to be the one I wanted to talk to about the wedding and be girly about it.  Instead this other friend has been amazingly helpful and positive and excited who I did not even realize was going to be.  Weird how things end up.
