Wedding rings on the Honeymoon???

Are you girls bringing your engagement and wedding ring with you on your honeymoon?

Re: Wedding rings on the Honeymoon???

  • Yes definitely!
I don't plan on ever leaving it in the hotel room though ~ not even in the safe.

Being married is a real thriller! =)

  • Yes. I could lose my rings and/or have them stolen just as easily at home as I could in most places in the world. Unless you're going somewhere where you're really worried about personal safety and the idea of having a diamond on your hand (which, to generalize, most people are not visiting on their HM) or are going to be doing some extreme outdoors stuff that might damage your rings, I don't see any reason to leave the rings at home

Where are you planning on going for your honeymoon?  I don't want to take it with me in the water!
  • You should probably not wear your rings in chorine pools because it can weaken the metal. Most resort pools are salt water. Talk to your jeweler if you feel more comfortable getting their advice on how to care for the metal of your ring. See if your room has a safe where you can leave them during the day.

First and foremost though, get your rings insured. All of them, including your husband's wedding band. That way if anything does happen while you're on vacation you'll be covered.

I wore mine the entire time on our HM.. swimming.. snorkeling.. hiking.. jumping into the waterfalls.. etc.. just make sure they fit properly and they're insured. I couldn't imagine leaving behind my rings right after getting married.
  • My aunt is an avid swimmer.  She usually leaves her rings at home before heading out to the pool.  However, if she forgets to take them off she refuses to leave them in a locker or the car so she swims with them.  They've held up for a few decades.  One or 2 dips in the pool shouldn't cause serious harm.

  • I plan to wear mine 24/7 on my honeymoon- even swimming- since my ring is pretty bulky and I'd def feel it start slipping off

  • I wore mine on my honeymoon in Hawaii.  Even when I was swimming.

<div>Agree!  You have insurance for a reason.  </div>
  • I thought about not bringing mine, but ended up wearing them for my entire HM...pool, ocean..all of it. My rings fit correctly, and we have insurance, so I didn't worry about it.

  • no we did not take ours. they are insured, but that does nothing for the sentimental value for me.

we went and bought cheap rings (sterling silver and cubic zirconia for me, stainless steel for DH) and wore those the entire time. then we didnt need to worry about them being affected by salt water/chlorine or losing them.

did none of you read the thread about 15 down from this one discussing how the brides rings were stolen on her HM?

I read it. I also wouldn't leave something as important to me as my wedding/engagement rings just sitting out in a hotel room. If you left something valuable out at home and had a stranger come into your room (which is what that person did), you'd be just as likely to have them stolen. It's not "being on vacation" that creates risk, it's doing things you wouldn't dream of doing at home.

I wore my rings for our entire HM including in the ocean - my mom never took her rings off for anything, and they lasted just fine, so I figured mine could handle a bit of salt water.

while on our honeymoon, in the 12 days we were there we witnessed (on our side of the resort) four people lose wedding bands in the ocean swimming, in the sand playing volleyball, or not even knowing how/when they lost it. i agree leaving it out in the open is asking for something bad to happen, but you can just as easily lose it doing a simple activity. especially for the gentleman if he doesnt know how loose it will be given he hasnt been wearing it for months/years as us women have.

  • Most definitely taking mine! We are renting a cabin though, so its a bit of a different situation. We also won't be swimming or playing in sand. Only hot tubbing. :)
  • Yep. Brought mine, wore mine (not in the ocean - I left them in our condo) and didn't worry about it at all.

The same thing could have easily happened anywhere if it just fell off of their fingers...why wear them at all, ever?

    Ditto this 100%
  • i always wear mine. almost 6 years iwth e ring, 5 with e ring and band. never lost them or had any issues and always wear them in the pool and doing everything though at least 12 trips to caribbean/mexico/europe/central america. if they fit properly they won't just fall off. bring them to a jeweler to make sure they are fit corretly and have them check the stones to be sure the prongs are strong.
and i've never had an issue iwth chlorine weakening the gold.

my MIL lost hers gardening in her backyard. does that mean i'll never garden iwth my ring on? LOL nope.

It can get lost anywhere, anytime. I would def. wear it on the HM, your not any more likley to lose it there (assuming you don't leave it laying around where it can get stolen) then you are anywhere else. As for the chlorine pools, to each their own. But if your going to leave it behind I would put it in the safe for sure.

I had my ring sized a 1/2 a size smaller then the jeweler suggested (he said I should have 5.5 and I got a 5)..I can still take it off if I ever wanted to, but it takes a lot of twisting and depending on the time of day (fingers swell at certain times of day or temps make them swell) I need to use a little soap and water+twisting. I prefer this cause I never have to worry about losing it unless I take it off and leave it somewhere. It will NEVER slide off my finger in the garden, pool, sand, playing volleyball, etc. because it can't come off without atleast 3 or 4 twists LOL I plan to get my wedding ring in the same size Smile

This. I actually just told someone than unless I was going to Medellan, they're probably safer on my finger than in a dresser at home when I'm on vacation. To be fair, I have a friend who house sits when I'm gone, but you never know.

  • I suppose I am just more sentimental than some so for me the fact that my ring is insured still does not help my feelings all that much!  Of course something can happen to your ring anywhere-my hubby had his come flying off during a soccer game though we did manage to find it after combing the field!  Since then we have bought inexpensive gold bands that we wear for outdoor activities and some trips if we are planning lots of activities.

  • I wore mine the entire honeymoon while horseback riding, snorkeling, pool and ocean swimming.  We never took them off.  You need to make sure you buy ring insurance for all of your rings that covers damage, loss and theft in any part of the world.  I went through insureyourjewelrey.com  I also bought the ring protection program that came through Zales.  It covers cleanings, redippings and resizings for the rest of my life.  After the honeymoon and swimming in the ocean, my ring looked green from all the algae and crap that got crusted underneath the diamond.  So, I got it cleaned and touched up and now it looks brand new again.  I suggest getting both of these things before your honeymoon. I would never ever feel comfortable not wearing my ring.
  • It's a personal choice.  I don't wear my e-ring when I go to the beach, so I'll be leaving my rings in the hotel safe whenever we're going to the beach.  FFIL lost his wedding ring in the ocean on his HM, so I guess that sticks out in my mind.  I don't worry about losing my ring during normal activities, but since your hands shrink a bit when you go swimming I just don't risk it.  I completely understand other ladies' reasoning for wearing them, though, and I'm not one to always leave it home - what's the point in owning it if you never wear it?

  • wedding rings yes...engagement ring no.

we've got white water rafting and rock climbing on our honeymoon itinerary, so better safe than sorry with the engagement ring because of the setting (diamond sits particularly high per fiance's design).
