Grooms Cake: To Do or not To Do

I am contemplating having a grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner.  Already I am planning on having a few key lime pies.  FI's favorite cake is the carrot cake from our local grocery store.  I am thinking about having them bake a large round one and cover it in blue cream cheese frosting then adding my own decorations to make it scuba themed.  Please tell me, does this look too childish?

  • I'm having a fun groom's cake at our rehearsal dinner, too! My mom (who is doing our wedding cake) & I are doing a Gator cake for the Florida Gators, FI's favorite team.
  • I think it depends on how formal your RD is & your "couple" personality.  I think it's adorable but that's just me :)

  • I think it's cute but I also don't think you need it considering you already have a few pies.

I'm planning on getting a simple 1/2 sheet cake with red and blue accents, and then putting something on/near it with FI's college team (University of Arizona). He loves German Chocolate cake so it will probably be that (even though I despise it). :)

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • I like it! :) It adds your own flare and personality (So I voted yes hehe)
  • FI decided he didn't want a traditional grooms cake so we are getting him a 3-tiered King Cake instead to go with our Mardi Gras theme... :)

  • I voted too childish because I think the picture is along those lines...HOWEVER I think that what makes it look childish is like the cartoony octapus. I think if you kept some of the cliche animals out and did the scuba guy and seaweed, and coral, and the wooden sign etc. that it would look adult and perfect for the RD.
