s/o being flamed

did you guys see the recipe for pork that someone recommended below?

sliced pork medallions, can of mushrooom soup, can of onion soup, can of golden mushroom soup. dump in crockpot, serve over mashed potatoes as gravy to your friends and family and wait for the song of praise to commence.

who here just got hungry?

:/

Re: s/o being flamed

  • I'm sure 6's SMIL would love this recipe!
  • *gag*
Hey, to each their own, but keep that shiz far away from me, thanks.

  • That sounds like slimy, lumpy goo.  Ugh.
  • I am someome who thinks of 'tater tot cassarole' as comfort food...and it's probably slightly 'worse' as a recipe than that.
but that probably says more about my family's class and my upbringing than anything else.  (and I make it about 2x a year, because tater-tot-cassarole is a bad for you comfort-food thing and is judged w/ good reason.)

But I also don't offer up that recipe here because I know that it's not exactly a high class food, nor is it what anyone (myself included) wants when they say they want a recipe.

(although I think I'm going to write down the family recipe for 'poor man's meal' next time I make it.  Because Buffy needs that someday)

<div>Yes, because I don't see how those pork medallions would retain any of their structure through the hours of cooking. Mush in glop over potatoes, yuck.</div>
  • it seems like a long process to make gravy and ruin a lovely loin of pork.
  • GBCK, I love meatloaf (which is taboo around here).

I'm not above using cream soups in recipes.  I make a chicken casserole that uses cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soup.

    But this recipe?  Ugh.  No.
  • i love meatloaf, and one version i make uses cream of something soup in it. it's not a crock pot recipe, though.

i just don't llike the crock pot. i'm a skeptic.
  • I'm having leftover meatloaf tonight...unless the Mr. ate it all for lunch.

But I hate most meatloaf except mine :)

I think 'cream of' soups only work in recipes that use cheap cuts of ground meat, for the most part.  Otherwise it just destroys a lovely cut of meat.

I'm also a corckpot skeptic w/ WZZ.  I can see the appeal but I can't quite bring myself to try it.  Andplus, I'd either have to trust the Mr. to take care of it/turn it on/etc or have to have it be OK to be on for 14 hours straight.
I think I'd burn down the house and kill my pets.
  • I use cream of crap in stuff and I do use condensed french onion soup as a base for beef tips and noodles.  I also cop to eating some low class stuff (a can of tuna in store brand mac and cheese).  That pork sounds horrid though.  I don't know what golden mushroom soup is.

AF- my stepMIL is an AWESOME cook.  My MIL would love this though.
  • It sounds absolutely horrifying to me.

    I'm also a crockpot hater.

  • Sweet Jeebus, that's so much sodium. I make homemade cream of crap- no more creepy cans.
  • Way too many cans of cream soup! I'm not above using creamed soups sparingly. And I prefer to make my own to cook with.

<div>Ooops - sorry.  I typed MIL and then changed it to SMIL.  :)</div>
  • i'm not trying to make my own cream of soup, but i do like some gross comfort food. for instance, growing up one of my favorite things to eat was white rice wth cream of mushroom soup as a side dish.
