Brides always being so paranoid about a BM trying to look better than them? Wouldn't you want your BP to look good for your pictures? Twice this week I've had vendors (Make-Up Artist, Photographer) tell me about some bride freaking out over it.
The way I see it, I'm the one in the big white dress. I want my bridal party to look their best. My make-up artist told me most brides make requests for the BMs to not look as good as they do. Why on earth would you do that? Do you really think people aren't going to pay attention to you if their make-up is done really good?

    Really? That's so weird. I wouldn't want my BMs to look like crap at my wedding... I'd want them to look good. Like you said, I'm the one in the big white dress... how would they look better??

    Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

    I've heard that a lot too! Brides coming into stores and picking out ugly dresses or ugly colors so they look better than the BMs that's just odd to me. I love my friends - I wouldn't want them to look back on my wedding as a day where they felt icky...

    Know what's sad...I've been told before that I wasn't chosen for a BP just because I'm 5'11. I didn't stay friends with those folks long lol.

    I'm not gonna lie. I have totally self confidence issues with my height - I HATE being tall - so I'm wearing flats in my wedding and told all of my BM's (all under 5'8) that if they found shoes with big ole heels I wouldn't be sad lol. 2 of 5 got 4 inch heels because they know (from millions of nights going out with me) that I hate to be the tallest one in the group- it made me smile.

    I was a BM for a friend that deliberately picked a BM dress that she knew nobody would look good in. Like, the day we ordered the dresses she flat out admitted she picked an unflattering color on purpose.

    It has become quite apparent since her wedding that she has a sh!t-ton of self esteem issues.

    When I got married, I harbored no delusion about the fact that I'm short (I'm 5'3"). My shortest BM is 2 inches taller than me, and my MOH is 8 inches taller than me when barefoot. DH was in a similar boat ... aside from our RB, we're actually the shortest people in our WP pics.

    I've known my entire life that I was short and for most of my life that my little sister (The MOH) is tall ... so I really never understood the whole "I'm the bride, I must be the tallest woman ever" thing.

    To be completely honest, I'd rather someone else get some of the attention in case I mess up on something, maybe that way it'd be a little less noticeable.

    haha, besides our flower girl whose 3 and our ring bearer whose our dog i'll be the shortest person in the wedding party and the only reason i thought of this was because of this thread.

    im 5'3 and i dont mind...my bridesmaides and moh are all at least a few inches taller than me.  were having a beach ceremony so everyone will be barefoot.  i cant imagine being so picky and insecure to not pick them to be in the wedding since they're taller than me.  when we went dress shopping i made sure they all liked their dresses, one didnt so we found a better one she liked.  those other brides who are so rude to their BP wanting them to look worse then they do are the same ones who are classified as "bridezilla"

    That is so stupid. I want my BM's to want to be my BM's and think part of that is not picking a butt ugly dress that is totally unflattering.

    I am making all of my BM dresseds and I plan to make slight adjustments to the fit and style accordingly based on each BM's shape, not to mention a 1950's style dress that is fitted up top with a full skirt is flattering to most body types anyway.

    those sound like the same kind of girls who only go clubbing with 'friends' who are bigger or less attractive than them so they can be the 'hot' one.  very shallow...

    I picked my BM's because they're wonderful women in my life, who I feel honored and blessed to be friends with.  and my JBM is my oldest daughter, who I love so, so very much ^^ (the younger two are FG's love them lots too!)
    I really want each of them to look as stunning as possible on my day, why? because I want them to feel as beautiful as I think they are!

    This is crazy!  I had more fun picking out my BM's dresses and FG's dresses than my own!  They all got little black dresses that they can wear again and has a flattering look for  every body type.  Also I didn't think about the short thing either I'm 5' 2" with a MOH at 5' 6" and never EVER thought about it until I read this.  I wish these were types of things I had time to worry about, but personally in our wedding planning that never even crossed my mind!
