VIsta Suite update from coordinator

This is the e-mail I recieved from my wedding coordinator at Mandalay Bay Mischelle:
In regards to your concerns with your room reservations I have been actively seeking resolutions to this matter as more often than not the front desk never notifies us that any couple has been moved to another room. If we are told at all is most often by the couple themselves in hopes that we may be able to fix the situation. Unfortunately at that point there is nothing we at the chapel can do. That being said I have been speaking with the Directors and Managers of both Mandalay Bay front desk and THE hotel front desk in regards to the recent happenings with brides and grooms checking in only to find out that they have been placed in a different room. In most cases they are upgraded rooms as it is policy that no one can be moved from a room and given one smaller than one the reservation was originally for. However I did explain that most couples have made plans for the room down to the last detail of decor placement and that it is very stressful and unnerving when they are moved to a different location and even though the other room is seen as an upgrade by the front desk it is not necessarily thought of that way by the couples.  All front desk managers have been notified that wedding couples are not to be moved from the rooms in which most have booked 8-9 months in advance. The front desk is able to see our group code when they pull up any reservation so this should help to alleviate this issue.  It is my hope that this situation will stop occurring as I know it cause undue stress in an already stressful situation.

My FI says we'll still make sure to know wher the nearest pizza hut is as a back up.

Hmmmm seems like the coordinator is getting conflicting information from the managers as we have already heard other brides being downgraded! I am not a MB bride but I wish you all the best of luck and I REALLY hope they sort this for you guys!

p.s. My Fi sounds alot like yours, that is exactly something he would say!

HA I'm sorry, I don;t mean to be a Debby-Downer, but this is just a bunch of "make you feel better" stuff, because I was DOWNGRADED to a room smaller than my reservation, and there was not a damn thing they were going to do about it.  SO the "policy" is complete crap.  I just want other brides to be aware that it CAN happen, because it happened to me.  Now, granted, I did not get married at MB, so I did not have whatever "code" from the chapel that may help...but we did have it marked as a wedding reception on the reservation, yet the front desk just "lost" that info somehow, and claimed that "if we had known it was for a wedding, we would not have let this happen." We told them it was a wedding when we booked it, and even when we confirmed it 2 days begforehand.  I just really want other brides to be warned that their policies really mean nothing as long as they "comp" you for breaking them. Just be careful...and keep Pizza Hut in your head - lol.

This is some good news, IF the couple is having the ceremony at MB. I hope there will be some resolution for the other brides that are just having a reception in one of the Vistas, like ginamarie.

I hate to say it, but I agree......lot's of lip service here.  Although it may be well intended, and the info your coordinator has been given, it doesn't mean much.  I worked in large convention hotels for years......so many people can touch that info so many things can go wrong, so many right hands.....so many left hands....it may be there 'policy' but in hotel terms.....that is a very loose statement.

    Oye.

No thank you GinaMarie! I hate that this happened to you but cause of your reviews I'm hoping I can get something done to prevent it happening to me or someone else.
I brought your situation up to her as an example of how brides have been treated lately and to let her know the front desk isn't following this "policy" so I'll see what she says.

I had a mini break down the other night at the thought of not getting our room to have our reception in and that was the way FI tried to comfort me was to tell me at least we'll still be getting married, everyone will understand and everyone loves pizza hut.

    LOL!

Anyways.....I made a comment in our reservation that the room was for our wedding/honeymoon trip so here's hoping that makes a difference, if what this lady says is correct but....*sigh*

I know my coordinator has done all that she can for me, I don't think coordinator's have too much say about what happens on the hotel side. She was able to get me a an even better rate though on the Vista Suite for the two nights.  So unless I want to change my plans now, which I don't want to,  I guess all I can do is hope for the best.

I've never gotten the feeling that any of the various departments in MB have any real pull other than the casino.  I can tell you the floral place f'ing sucks; we asked for a quote on some very simple things and it took them three weeks to get it to us; after a week I gave up and ordered from Deb at the Palette instead.  Fortunately Mix doesn't care who we got flowers from.

When we were considering the MB chapel, they didn't seem to have any influence on any other part of the hotel when it came to getting us information because everything took forever.

I don't think the MB hotel cares about anyone, even people trying to give them money.  I talked to about 10 different people in a two week qwest to be able to pay for rooms for our wedding party and no one ever called me back after saying they would, gave me incorrect info, just told me it couldn't be done, etc.  I ended up having to book all our party via the MB website one at a time, putting in their names and my credit card.  Not a single person at the hotel felt inclined to do any extra work to figure out how to take my $4000 booking.

So far haven't been too impressed with Mandalay Bay, a few months ago when I was making my reservation for the vista suite it took a few phone calls and got people who didn't seem to know what they were talking about and the price on-line was different then what they were telling me on the phone. I should have just booked it though the chapel to begin with.

I do have to say though my coordinator Mischelle has been awesome!  She responds to all my-emails very quickly and even got us a better rate at the hotel.

That's what I'm going to do. Hope for the best & if it doesn't work out, deal with it then.

Actually, I'm pretty pleased with that response.  East for me to say as I'm a MB ceremony bride, but it seems as if that coordinator really took initiative on this and did everything within her (limited) power to work with guest services to alleviate the problem-- and took the time to carefully craft a response to hstaples.  Now if guest services continues to bump brides from the Vista that's one thing, but in this instance, I give the WC a thumbs up.

IMO. If your using the Chapel and the WC booked it you more than likely have a fighting chance to make sure that things go ok. I used my WC to book and got a better deal then the promo price online. Good Luck! and I like you FI additude about it! haha :)

Yeah I think this is great news for brides with MB ceremony's as well, I would even see if OP would forward me that email to print off too.

Unfortunately I don't think this will help us other brides not having ceremonies at MB.

Oh and yeah agree with VG on the floral, OMG my quote from them when we considered moving our ceremony there was like 3 grand, versus The Palette's $700 for probably even better flowers.
