I'm not over-reacting, this is totally tacky, right??

  • Habs, clearly people are hurting in this economy.

And don't have the common sense to realize EVERYONE is hurting and in the same boat.

I think the poster meant that as satirical, like it would be a "screw you" to put a measly $10 when they are demanding huge expensive gifts.

[QUOTE]I don't think I'd have the guts to actually do this, but I think it would be hilarious to give the bride and groom Photoshopped plane tickets, and if they asked me about it, be like, "Oh, did you mean *REAL* plane tickets? I didn't think you were being serious when you were making your rude request" (or something along those lines of a reply)

That's how I read it too.

People are always reaching new lows. What on earth would make someone think that was an okay request? I hope I never understand.
  • I think I would say "sure!  I'd be happy to do that for you" and then book them cheap tickets to somewhere truly craptastic for their honeymoon, on Delta.

From my obsession with scrapbooking, I can tell you "yes" with 100% certainty.
  • I actually think $10 is pretty funny. It's like giving pennies for a tip after terrible service.

I say a $5 gift certificate to American Airlines so he can buy himself a drink on the flight, and a hand full of change!

... On second thought, I'm not even sure if he's 21...

I'm pretty sure she was being sarcastic/joking.

Edit: Aaannd, people already said this. I do think the $10 would be sorta funny in a go screw yourself kinda way.

  • I love all these great ideas for gifts!

I think it would be hilarious to buy them really cheap tickets to someplace just awful. "Cheers! Since you didn't specify where you wanted to go, we took it upon ourselves to send you to our favorite little vacay spot! Podunk USA! I hear they're having a chicken wing festival that weekend! Enjoy!"

  • Man, another crazy Ohioan.  I promise, we all aren't rude/crazy people!

I can't believe people have such entitlement issues.  FI's parents offered to give us their frequent flyer miles for our honeymoon, but we were fully planning on paying for them ourselves.  I could never imagine texting a relative I'm not close with to pay for them (or anyone really).

  • Yeah, I think something measly like $5 or $10 would be better than nothing, because if you got them just a card, they might assume that you forgot to include their plane tickets in it and then they'd be bugging you saying "um, we got a card with nothing in it, where's our gift".  But if they opened it up and there's only $10 in it, there's no question that it.

The $10 idea was hilarious. So much better than an empty card.
Its a nice little "Yup. This really is your gift. No present in the mail. Ten measly bucks. Congrats :)"

Or you could send them to Paris or London! Kentucky, that is.

  • You know, they never said anything about wanting round trip tickets.  And Southwest is pretty inexpensive for a one way deal...Maybe Ontario, CA(lifornia and they won't even need a pasport!)

  • Wow ... that's crazy rude. I would definitely be tempted to just send them a card. Maybe make them a sloppy drawing of some fake airline tickets or get some of those little prize redemption tickets like you get at Chuck E Cheese, and throw them in there with a note that says,"We heard you wanted some tickets ... hope you like these".

Or I think you can get a card with a picture of King Kong snatching the biplane out of the air on it with "I got your airline ticket right here" written inside.

    Seriously ... jeez.

  • He's taking advantage of your dad.  I can't stand people like that.  Seen it way too many times in my family.  Wondering if your cousin will only send an invite to the wedding if he gets his requested gift.  Your dad should not comply to his request.  He should reply back, "thanks for the idea, but I want the gift to be a surprise!"
