Which river are you floating? We are floating the comal.

Since it's your first time, here are a few tips I wish someone would have told me my first time! Bring a floating cooler, bring some cheap walmart throw away sunglasses that you won't be bummed to lose, and bring some water shoes. The bottom of the river has lots of rocks and will hurt your feet if you have to get out and walk, and it's slippery. I bring tennis shoes.

Lots of sunscreen, and PACE yourself on the drinking. Last year I went way too fast and got really sick at the end of the float! 95 degree heat, plus lots of beer in a short time span= no bueno for Natalie!

It's SO much fun though!!

I think we are floating the Gaudalupe.  Thank you for all the tips!!  LOL I will definitely have to pace myself...that's a long time to be drinking!  I've floated the comal before but I've never floated the Gaudalupe.

    Yeah the Guadalupe is long!

    Have fun!!

I bet you're glad FI is home! I saw your post the other day about him being home for a week!

I am VERY glad!!  It's so nice having him home.  Although, his "honey do" list is a little longer now.  First up, spraying for spiders!  ;)

I hope you have fun this weekend too!  I feel like we deserve a weekend away from wedding stuff!  Enjoy it!

    *butting in*
Is there some secret to floating?  We went a few weeks ago and we were the worst tubers ever.  First, we had the bright idea of tying our tubes together (don't people do this??)  5 seconds later when we approached the first tree, Ben was on one side of it and I was on the other.  Ditto the rocks on the first rapids--at that point we hung on to a rock for dear life and frantically untied the knot to separate ourselves.

If there was  _____ (insert: log, stump, tree, rock, etc.) in the middle of the gigantic river, I headed straight for it.  Every time.  Without fail.  No matter how much paddling and praying I did.

Since it was raining alot on our trip we just did a short 2 hour float and didn't drink.  When we were done, Ben was like, how the heck would I have been able to control a cooler when I couldn't even control myself?

When it was time to get off to meet our shuttle, Ben expertly makes his way to the bank while I keep right on floating (this, after he had just gotten stuck in the rapids not 2 minutes before).  I was yelling at Ben saying what do I do and his big response was "Well, see you later!"  And he waved as I floated away.

It was pretty hilarious.  We would like to go back someday but we're not so sure we should.  Any tips you guys have would be great.  Oh and we both wore old tennis shoes and took off our rings but holy crap I just realized I wore my Coach sunglasses the whole time--I cannot believe I still have them!

Stephie which river did you float?

The comal is a much more calm float than the Guadalupe. The only semi rough points are when you go over a little waterfall type thing, or down the shoot. But that's at the very beginning. Other than that, it's smooth sailing and you're just relaxing the whole time.

I haven't done the Guadalupe since I was little, and I remember being pretty scared. And FI said it's much rougher, and it's also a lot longer. The Comal is about 2 hours, tops. The Guadalupe is between 4-5 I think. We prefer the Comal because you have the option to get out after 2 hours, or go again if you want.

Also, yeah, no tying tubes together. hahaha.

The cooler we have floats, and FI ties it to his tube.

You're lucky you didn't lose your sunglasses!

    Last year I lost FI's Oakley's...oops... :(

We did the Guadalupe.  It was a short float (2 hour--but then we had to get out at that certain point where they pick us up).  We could have done the longer one, we just didn't because of the weather.  Yeah, I think we agreed the Comal is the way to go if we go again.  You make it sound so relaxing!
