I think it should be illegal to...

Re: I think it should be illegal to...

  • eh, to each their own. i don't really think it's trashy, per se.  I mean, i don't think i've ever taken him to Target in just a diaper,  but he has been in the car, strapped into his carseat, with just a diaper on. Especially for long trips, or if I was picking him up from his grandparents in the summer.

i have also taken him out for walks in his stroller with just a diap on. if it's eleventy bajillion degrees out, i'm not worried about some rando stranger thinking i'm trash, i'm more concerned for his comfort..

and until he was walking on the reg, he hardly ever wore shoes. . sometimes not even socks. again, glad i wasn't arrested.
I think it should be illegal to CC e-mails that aren't relevant to the people you are CCing. I know that's dumb but people are CCing all willynilly here lately and it's driving me nuts. If I don't need to take action then don't freaking CC me. I get using them if it's relevant.

A spin off of this, is hitting "Reply All" when you're just answering the original e-mailer back.  And then everyone else does the same damn thing.

My mother's extended family is notorious for doing this. Someone will send a message out to the entire family (10 sets of aunts/uncles/their kids/their kids) and multiple people will reply to all "Congratulations".

Wise choice. Being barefoot helps strengthen their muscles when they're learning to walk, and many pediatricians recommend putting shoes on only when their feet need to be protected (walking outside, etc).
It should be illegal for mothers to refer to their children's fathers as "sperm donors" unless they actually were.  Just because your relationship didn't work out doesn't mean he isn't a father, especially when he pays child support and has as much visitation as the courts ordered and talks to his children daily.
    Posted by djhar
Eh...sometimes that's really what it is though.  My dad's "father" ran out on them when dad was a baby and never looked back.  No child support, no visitation, nothing.  So to us, he was just a "sperm donor".  The person that my dad considers his real father is the one that raised him.
  • Dream - I won't lie. I probably would have side eyed you if you had your kid out in public in just a diaper. I just don't think it's appropriate at any age. I mean, in your house, sure, whatever. In public? at least throw a t-shirt or onesie on the kid. But I'm speaking as a non-mom so I could change my tune one day.

but especially that kid in the picture - who's probably 2. C'mon. Put some clothes on your kid.

I have to agree with LDY.  It's not my favorite.   I feel like a little onesie wouldn't be a drastic difference from a naked baby with a diaper.  Then again, I'm not a mother so maybe that's something I'll adapt to when the time comes.

I'm probably just sensitive to it though.  A girl I knew in highschool posts pictures of her little daughters (2 and 4?) in their undies/diapers ALL THE TIME.  It bothers the crap out of me.

ETA:  Apparently I can't spell diaper.

  • One of the girls I babysit gets hot really easily so I often take her out in her backyard in just a diaper. I admit I wouldn't take her for a walk in one but I dress her in as little as possible for her comfort.
  • I would side-ey it too.  I don't think I'd ever go out in public with my kid in just a diaper, even my baby.  A little onsie isn't going to be too hot in the summer.  I prefer children with clothes on, even babies.
I'm going to agree with the smoking thing.  It's banned in most public places here and restaurants but what 99% of smokers do is just stand outside the door - so you then have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get in and out.  The rudest people are smokers walking down a street and blowing smoke everywhere!
    Posted by erbear84
Even better...My FI and I were out celebrating a friend's birthday at a decent bar in NYC.  They have a giant open window that might have been a small garage door.  Guess where the smokers stand?  Right in front of the restaurant, with the wind blowing all the smoke into the non-smoking establishment.  I would have complained, but the guy was talking to the bouncer, so he was obviously a regular and no one but me was bothered.

  • I don't understand not dressing your baby in public either.  I live in AZ, so I know hot, but one thin layer of cotton isn't going to suffocate them.  In fact, I'd rather have my baby a little sweaty than sunburned, which will cause them much greater discomfort than clothes.

  • As an asthmatic with horrible allergies, I think perfume, scented candles, and those god-awful Glade plug-ins should be banned into deep space, but I realize that will probably never happen.
  • I think it should be illegal for old men to wear fishnet/mesh shirts.  You know it's summer in NYC when there's old man nipple visible on the subway.  Ew

I think it should be illegal to take your toddler out in only a diaper and allow him to drink soda from his baby bottle...I shiiit you not. I've seen this in my local Walmart. They always have runny noses too...green stuff just running down their face.

Apparently these people have never heard of Kleenex.

They've already got the sin tax on people who smoke and around here, at least, you have to be 10 feet from any door.  I am a smoker, and consider myself a pretty considerate one at that.  But, I don't go around saying it should be illegal for anyone to drive because they could kill me. JMO though.

Heh, my 17 month old nephew was doing this this weekend. Except it wasn't in his bottle. The bought him his own 20 oz coke. I took a picture so my friends would believe that the mother and grandmother were, in fact, giving him coke. My SIL is extremely judgeworthy in general (same kid is constantly in just a diaper, haha) but yeah. I will get on board with you on this.

    LOVE this. And agree 100%.

As for smoking-- even if it ever actually became illegal people would still do it, just like every other illegal drug. I know plenty of people who smoke and are not obnoxious about it at all. Only the few who stand right in the tiny doorway so you can't help but breathe it in bug me.

  • Also, it should be illegal to post naked bathtub pictures of your child on Facebook, when SHE'S FOUR YEARS OLD, especially when your Facebook page is public. And your blog is public.

In fact, it should be illegal to post any pictures of your child (particularly candid school photos that contain OTHER PEOPLE's children) on a public Facebook page, especially those stupid online pageant pages, AKA a pedophile's gold mine.

    What is wrong with people?

My sister's friend used to do this.  Her 2 year-old would beg for a Pepsi and her mom would laugh and say, "Well you can tell she's mine because she loves her Pepsi!"  No, you half-wit.  She's 2 and it's liquid sugar.  I hardly think she can distinguish the flavors of Coke and Pepsi.

I do not think it should be illegal to smoke, and I think the large size soda ban in NYC is just plain dumb.  Where does it end?  All you can eat buffets?  Super heavy pasta dishes in Little Italy?  Why not just teach people better choices, rather than tell them, sure, you can drink a small soda, or lots of small soda, just not a LARGE soda.
  • I'm on the "trashy in only a diaper" couch.

I think gum chewing should be illegal.
  • FTR - I don't think smoking should be banned.  I think some people should be more considerate.  Many people are.
