Too much makeup?

I had my first makeup trial yesterday. I liked how it came out but I'm worried it was too much makeup. The makeup artist said that a lot of the makeup gets lost in the pics. I felt like when I was younger and used to be in dance shows. Should the makeup be like that? Like I said I liked how it looked it was just a lot. I'm not sure if I should go back in for another trial or not. HELP!

Re: Too much makeup?

  • Hmmm, I definitely feel "made up" when I have my makeup professionally done, but in no way is it over the top.  You should still feel comfortable in person with how you look. It's not like you should be made up like you will be on stage where the people on the very back row need to see you.  If you are using a good photographer, you don't need to worry about it.

When I had makeup done for my B-pics, I definitely felt like it was too much and would NOT have been comfortable seeing anyone in person like that.  This was the look I was going for for these pictures--but it is NOT how I would have wanted to look on my wedding day.  Does that make sense?

At any rate, you need to feel comfortable, regardless.  Maybe just have her tone it down some for the wedding day.

It's definitely more than regular daily makeup, but it shouldn't be quite as much as for stage/dance. While a lot does wash out of photos, you don't want to look scary in person (you should have seen my makeup for my dance recital--scary!).

Did you get any photos taken? Does it still look like a lot in the photos? It's worth at least talking to the makeup artist to let him/her know you weren't quite comfortable with the result. Start the discussion and ask what the MUA suggests, which might be a second trial.

FWIW, I thought mine was still a little much even in the photos. I went over my blush with some powder to tone it down.
  • I agree with lea.  Wedding or not, you still need to like the makeup.  If you feel it's too much, then let the MUA know that.  He or she should adjust that.
  • you should not feel like you have too much makeup on. did any of your family/friends see the trial? regardless you should feel your most beautiful on your wedding day. you shouldn't feel like you're not being yourself.
