major hair frizz and limp curls :(

The wedding is a year away, but I don't know anything about working with hair.  My hair is straight, long, thin, and will frizz like no one's business.  :-(  To fix this now, I either clip it up or wear a baseball hat.  The wedding is going to be on the beach in FL and I would like my hair to be down with big bouncy curls.  Techniques or products that will help hold the curls without going limp immediately and how to stop the frizz?!    THANKS LADIES!

  • I would start consulting a hair stylist now, preferably the one you would have do your hair for the wedding.  They can recommend products specifically for your hair type.

The best curls are going to come from a flat iron.  It sounds funny, but they are generally hotter than curling irons, so they can hold the curl longer.  Here is a youtube video that shows you how to curl your hair with a flat iron. It takes practice, but it gets easier once you get the hang of it.

The next most important thing will be a heat protectant for your hair.  This will help it stay healthy throughout all the damage.

Find a good hairspray with super hold.  I like Big Sexy Hair aerosol spray personally.

To combat the friz, use a shine serum.  Also, avoid blow drying your hair.

    Hope that helps!

  • one good option for frizzy hair is to start now with weekly deep conditioning treatments trim split ends often and use smoothing serums to repair damage, also try rollar wet sets, you will get smoother longer lasting curls. when you take your hair to wet to dry, in a set and let the set cool before removing it you really lock in the curly shape
  • Check out naturallycurly.com. Your hair may actually be wavy or curly, not straight. I have curly hair and my sisters all have straight hair. My hair frizzes (sometimes) and theirs has fly aways. Especially check out the book Curly Girl. I went from hating my hair to loving it because of that book. I am the girl who is told she doesn't need to do anything with her hair for special occasions.
  • Frizzy hair becomes frizzy because it's trying to get more moisture.  If you're conditioning your hair and using deep treatments and such, you're giving your hair its own moisture and it will frizz less.

Another option (though a pricey one) is a keratin treatment.  Keratin got a bad rep a few years ago because they used formaldehyde, but most of them don't now.  Keratin is protein.  It's infusing your hair with protein.  I've had 3 done.  If you decide to go with keratin, I'd do it about a month or two before the wedding.
Paprika: I like it when you burp in my ear. It really turns me on.

  • Thanks everyone!  I went out and bought shampoo and conditioner that say moisturizer on them (Bioluxe).  I like them so far, but it's still not enough.  I'm going to try the serum or deep conditioner weekly too.  I also bought heat treatment for practicing with the curlers or flat iron and moisture barrier hairspray from john freida (sp?).  I plan on doing my hair myself so that youtube link was VERY helpful.  I'll also check out that curly website.  Everyone was soooo helpful!
