The bypass is done, though my dad is still in surgery--they're just putting him back together now.  Once the surgeon got in, he opted to go for a quintuple bypass.  No damage to the heart muscle, fortunately.  Some to the surrounding tissue, but that should heal itself fairly quickly.  As quintuple bypasses go, apprently it was pretty much textbook.  So yay for that.

    YAY! Glad it's done and they're getting dad back together.

    Do they know when he'll be out of the hospital?

    LS, probably Monday, but possibly Sunday.

    Oh, and I asked the surgeon about the small arteries, and he said no, they were mostly normal size, and just one was "a little smaller than normal."  So I guess he's not a mutant after all.

    He is now recovering in the ICU.  They have a board with his "goals" and today's are for him to take over breathing on his own so they can disconnect the ventilator.  Tomorrow they want him up and walking around.

    Glad it went well. Is he in his own room? When H's dad had a valve replacement, he was in a ward with several other heart surgery patients for the first 2 days of recovery. We couldn't go in if any of the other patients were in distress, so we spent a lot of time in the waiting room.

    Yay! Congrats for textbook! Quintuple is quite impressive. Gotta love those hospital "goals". It's like you never left your job

    @ Duckis:  he is all by himself.  They just extubated him, but we have to wait a bit before we can go see him.

    Yeah, I guess he can technically coast the rest of the day, since he's doing well with today's goal.
