Saturday Chat

Hey ladies! Is anyone around today? I'm stuck at work all day and currently hating the act that this board kind of shuts down on weekends. Someone entertain me. I'm boooored.

Re: Saturday Chat

  • I'll be around for a bit. BF is still sleeping so I'm just wasting time on the internet. Do you have any fun plans for later in the weekend?

  • In that above post, "act" "fact." I would edit but I'm on the mobile site.

I might have to go to "prom" tonight with FI. Apparently med schools have dances. Who knew.
  • I had no idea med. school had dances. Also, the mobile site sucks but I doubt they will ever be able to fix the issues on there!

  • Yep, I hate the mobile site. I used to keep switching it to the desktop version, but every it randomly switches back so I gave up. What are you doing for the rest of the day?
  • Supposedly, we are going to tour a brewery in Boulder with some of BF's friends but they are the WORST at following through with plans so who knows what we will really be doing.

  • The brewery tour sounds fun. I hope his friends don't flake. Flakiness is one of my biggest pet peeves.

It's one of mine too. I'm sure we will end up doing something but a lot of the time it's not what we planned on doing. I'm trying to be better about getting along with them though. I just need to let their inconsiderate actions in the past go.

ETA: Did you finish your invites yet?

  • I'm here! I'm at work, but it's been pretty slow, so I'm taking a break.

I'm planning to spend the evening scanning photos. I have a huge box of old family photos from my parents, and I've been putting the photos on flash drives so my parents can put them in their safety deposit box. I'd hate to see all of these photos lost if they ever have a fire or flood.

Plus, I'm having lots of fun going through them. I found my dad's senior portrait with a little note to my mom on the back. They'd just met, so he wrote something about her being a "choice gal" (it was 1962) and "always remember Easter weekend" (when they met). I melted. :)

Aw...that's so sweet! I love going through old pictures so many of them are hilarious!

Yeah, it's been a blast. I have all kinds of stuff from 1940 through 2006-ish (when pretty much everyone had switched to digital cameras). It's taking up our entire dining room since it's a mix of gigantic albums and boxes full of photo envelopes. It's kind of funny to see negatives and envelopes again.

Hi ladies. Elle, that could be fun! My best friend just had a law school 'prom' and had a blast.

We just returned from the interesting adventure of attaining an out of state marriage license. We also mailed it without our payment, had to run back home to get everything, and I mailed it with a letter explaining what the payment was for. I hope this doesn't screw everything up.

  • Hi girls. I'm at work today too.

Eirwyn, I keep meaning to ask -- how are the tulips this year? I grew up in Fremont, about an hour north of GR. I know GR isn't Holland, but it seems like West Michigan in general is just covered in tulips all over the place around Easter usually. I miss them! Although the ocotillo blooming right now is one of my favorite AZ sights. Anyway. It makes me happy to see someone from nearby my hometown on the board. :) Did you grow up in MI?

  • Eirwyn how adorable! Beth I still haven't finished them! Haha. I have feeling a little for the past couple days, so I took a break. I think i be able to finish them with another hour or two of work. Today is our 8week mark so as long as I get them out in the next couple days, I should be fine.
  • Elle- Only 8 weeks left! Holy cow lady, you are going to be married so soon!

  • Elle that's so exciting! Checking the mail everyday for RSVPs will be fun!

They're a bit worried about the tulips. We had that freaky heat wave in March, and then April was super cold for a couple of weeks with all kinds of frost/freeze advisories. The Official Tulip People in Holland said the heat wave caused a lot of tulips to bloom early, and then they started wilting during the cold snap. They aren't sure if there will be a full crop for the Tulip Festival so, last I heard, they were "exploring options". I wonder if this means they'll have to truck in a bunch of tulips and plant them?

I'm in Kalamazoo, but yeah... close enough. :) We have a lot of tulips and daffodils right now, but again, the cold seems to have killed a lot of the early bloomers. :(

I grew up in Alpena, and then we moved to Gaylord when I was a teenager. I went to school in the U.P. (NMU) and then transferred to WMU. I lived in Ann Arbor for several years and spent a summer in Chicago. It's hard to pin down a favorite area, but I really do miss the U.P. for the scenery and Ann Arbor for the culture/things to do. BF and I both love Chicago, so we're going to try to get jobs there in a couple of years, but part of me worries I'll be homesick. At least it's close enough to visit on weekends. :)
  • I have no idea how BF sleeps through all the noise his family makes in the morning! This house is built so even the tiniest noise made in the kitchen is amplified throughout the house. It drives me crazy!

For example if we are watching TV and someone turns on the sink in the kitchen we have to turn the volume up to like 30 (from about 10) to be able to hear it. It is super annoying.

That would drive me nuts too, I wake up from any noise. Is it a really old house or something?

  • I will definitely share any good ones! I'm a little worried that some of our more traditional relatives will just be confused haha. But yeah I think I'm going to get a display board to show them off at the wedding and I'm definitely keeping them afterward.

Nope. The house I grew up in was WAY older and it never had these problems. I think it's just the way the house is designed and the fact that his family just bangs stuff around all morning.

My computer is going to die soon though and it's almost noon so I'm going to go wake BF up. Have a lovely day everyone!

I feel your pain. BF could sleep through a tornado, whereas I wake up if an acorn falls from a tree three blocks away. My dream bedroom is an underground, concrete storm shelter.

I am here popping in and out. I'm supposed to be doing work for my final studio project review in a week, but I'm sitting here calculating the lowest grade I could have gotten on my exam yesterday to pass and graduate...lol.

I am also doing puppy research. I can't wait until we move and can get a dog. There is a puppy store near us that I despise because it's a puppy store, but I still like to go in sometimes to play with them so that they can get out of their cages. I can't believe they're still in business though, the fact that people actually purchase from them. Anyways, I went in yesterday because I knew that have a husky puppy right now and I just wanted to steal him away. That kind of re-ignited my puppy fever. But I know it's going to be anotehr 6 months or so until we can get a dog.

Oh, also as I'm sitting here on the computer, I have a rubber band around my wrist and the cat keeps biting it and then snapping me with it. It hurts, but it's just too funny to stop letting him do it.
