Father/ Daughter Dance Song- CHECK (had to share..)

So I told my dad in October that we had to come up with a song for our dance.  I've given him several songs that I liked but he turned them down (which is fine)... but every time I see him (~2x/month) I ask if he's decided yet and he says "no".  So finallly...... mid-January..... he's made a decision.  Here is the e-mail I received this morning:

Caitlin,

I have reviewed over 80 actual song clips using a variety of Web lists for Father/Daughter dances.  My preference is:

"My Little Girl"  Tim McGraw

hahah.. sooo how many of your dads (or moms, uncles, grandfathers) have made this as big of a deal as mine? 80 songs?! He's crazy, but I love him!! :)

  • My dad made me decide, though there were two songs he said 'no' to because he'd cry too much. (One was 'Mandy' by Barry Manilow, the song I was named after).

I ended up going with 'I loved her first' by Heartland <---clicky

I can't even THINK about the song without tearing up!

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • Aw how cute!!  Mine was easy...We are dancing to "I'll Stand by You" , the Pretenders.  It has meaning for us so it was an easy choice.  Thank god for that!

My dad and I are dancing to "My Girl"
When I was in high school on the dance team, we did a daddy/daughter dance for our performance, and we danced to that, so my dad requested that we danced to it at my wedding :)

  • The song for the father daughter dance is actually going to be a surprise.  My dad has no idea what song I chose.  I decided on Celine Dion, Because you Loved me.  I'm going to have a hard time getting through this without bawling like a baby.  I am very much a daddy's girl!

That is the song that my Dad and I are dancing to as well. Anytime I hear it I start to tear up as well. I am sure I will at the wedding too!

That's the song I chose too. Every time I think about it it makes me tear up. Or really anything to do with my dad and the wedding it does.

Me too!!  That's why I think we are going to do "Jump in the Line" by Harry Belafonte...hard to cry during that song!

  • All of these are so cute and I'm super, super jealous. My dad and I aren't close and we haven't been since I was younger. (Insert super long custody, lack of involvement after I turned 18 story here.) I see him on holidays and birthdays, and that's usually about it. So maybe 5-6 times a year. The sad part is that he lives maby 45 minutes away from me, that's it.

We're dancing to My Wish by Rascall Flatts.

PS. When I think about these things, I can't help but compare the situation to JP. He is going to be the best, most loving, passionate, and super involved dad you can imagine. I absolutely love him for it and I can't wait to be a part of it.

  • Your dad's email is adorable!  I'm not sure my dad reviewed that many songs, but he has sent me several separate emails with links to only one or two songs, noting that "he can't look for any more or he'll start crying."  So looking forward to this moment!
