Wedding Favors

If you had or are having wedding favors how much did you spend?

Any creative ideas?

    That might help.

We didn't do favors.  I just kept finding that as a guest, I would accidentally or on purpose leave them behind and there really is nothing that is universally liked by everyone.  So we just had lots of great food and an open bar.  I think that was good enough.

  • We bought our favor kits at Wal-Mart bc I am not much of DIY. I think we bought 4 or 5 of them at $20 a kit. Then we filled them with our wedding colors M&M's a printed the favor tags out on the computer. I would say $150-200 on favors. But I know some people spend more, some less. It is just whats in your budgets. They are not required, but I have always attended weddings with them.

Ours were cheap.  We bought caramel corn from Costco and bagged it.  It was ridiculously yummy and fit a fall wedding really well.

  • We are doing hand dipped chocolate pretzels from a local homemade candy store ($.99 each) and a donation (yes I know this is not technically a favor and is controversial).  Both of our grandmothers were diagnosed with breast cancer in Oct. 2009 which happens to be breast cancer awareness month, it was really hard on both of our families.  Thankfully they are both doing OK as of last month and cancer free!  To honor them we are going to make a donation to each of the centers that helped them, this will be in whatever amount we feel we can afford at the time.
  • I made a donation to St. Jude's Children's Foundation. This was my grandmother's favorite charity, and she passed away several months ago so it means a lot -- she's there in spirit. St. Jude's is actually sending us lovely bookmarks to put out at the table.

We're using these cookie cutters to make "thank you" cookies

    http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/message-in-a-cookie-cutter-set/?pkey=ccookie-cutters-pancake-molds

Each guest will get 2 cookies...we're guessing maybe $3 each once we buy bags etc

  • we are doing chopsticks (since FI is Chinese) - $0.85 each (not personalized, they just have the double happiness symbol on them), tied w/ personalize ribbon (~$14 total)

I figured it's cute, and something they can use again if they want (and doesn't have our names on it, so it's not qute as weird)

  • My idea is to do wine charms with our wedding date stamped in metal and then attach a tag to each one with each persons name and table #. I found a Etsy person that creates them. They can be used as escort cards & favors. I am a big wine drinker so I thought this would be a fun way to incorporate that.  I just don't know how much is too much to spend on something like this. The Etsy dealer said $1.50 per, but I'm trying to work out a deal. With 215 guests that will get pricey!
  • We're doing boxed pieces of cake as our favors since we're having a giant cookie table and that will be desert for people.
  • We're doing Jones Soda as favors.  On their website, you can customize the labels with a photo and text.

Unfortunately, this cost a pretty penny with shipping.  If I remember correctly, it was around $550-$600 for 132 bottles (11 cases).  Shipping alone added on $180.  Ouch.

This is cute, but not something I would want as a guest.  I don't drink wine and I don't think I'd want one with my name and table number on it.  I'm of the mind that edible favors are always best.

  • We had a candy bar.

  • We made boxes of chocolates. Two truffles, a nut cluster and a caramel ran us about $2 per person at a local chocolatier.
  • We're either going with our favorite hot sauce from the city we got engaged (up in the air on it) - or chocolates (truffles particularly) from an awesome local chocolate store.  Either way, they will be about $3-$4 each.

We brewed our own honey/orange beer, much like Blue Moon. Our good friend created a front label that had a charaicature of us driving away into the sunset in the Ghostbusters car (FI is a huge fan), with the license plate as our wedding date. We merged our last names and called it the Coutupo Concoction.

On the back there is a label that explains the origin of the word honeymoon (ancient times, honey mead to the groom on the first full moon after the wedding).

I'm pretty pumped about it, might be my favorite wedding thing so far.

Edit: We already had kegs from Mr. Beer, so all we needed to buy were the bottles and beer mixes. Maybe cost us around $200?

  • Let me preface this by saying that I'm getting married in December (1 week before Christmas).  We're having silver snowflake-shaped ornaments done with our names and wedding date on them.  My aunt owns an engraving shop so she's doing this for us as our wedding present.  If guests don't take them, then I'll flip them over and have a tree of silver snowflake ornaments!

we had a super casual outdoor barbeque in the summer. our favors were koozies (I know... klassy, but they were a hit), and they were used by the guests to keep their beer cold. I bought 100 for $150ish.

  • You girls are really creative! Such cool things!
  • @ Pooh- Our rehearsal dinner is going to be BBQ and we're getting koozies.  My FI is so excited. (And maybe I am a little excited to order the koozies that look like tuxedos lol)

For the wedding the favors will be cookies the come pre-packaged in pairs from the baker so we're going to tie a ribbon on them and a tag and be done.  Should be $2-2.50 each.
  • We are getting caramel apples from a local place...about $3.25 each. I got samples about a month ago and they were soooooo freaking delicious. Totally worth every penny!
  • We did flower seed packets with "love in the mist" flower seeds.  They ended up being my favorite detail of the wedding and only cost about $40 to make 150 packets.
  • I love my koozies. use them all the time. I'm taking them with me to football tailgates this fall.

  • Well, originally I wasn't going to do them because I didn't want to budget for them or have them get not taken or trashed.

    BUT

My FSIL is starting her own soap making businees & wanted some free advertising. She is making leaf soaps in our cranberry color.

    THEN

I also thought about the millions of weddings I've been to & got hungry while waiting for dinner. So I got small plain ivory favor boxes @ Michael's & I have some Halloween stamps. So I'm going to fill them w/ candy as my 1 shout out to Halloween. (My wedding is 10/30, but not halloween themed).
  • We went favor crazy but they were all well received. We did a color coordinated candy bar, mixed CDs, and flower seeds packets (of the specific flowers we used in the ceremony, which were the favorite flowers of our deceased grandmothers). We spent way too much, but we liked the idea of CDs and of treating the guests to candy. And the seed packets helped decorate the tables. Like $300 on candy, seeds were like $100 (but we also made huge jars of the seeds as gifts for the moms - the favorite flowers of their late mom), and CDs were like $100.

I wish I hadn't just calculated the money on that. We just sort of purchased things as we were able and I guess it added up!
