Sparkpeople, calories per day question

When I set up my exercise goals on sparkpeople for when and how long I want to exercise it gave me a number of calories that I should burn in that amount of time. Well when I enter my exercises, for the amount of minutes I entered, it says I'm burning too many calories and need to adjust my calorie intake. My calorie intake is 1,370-1,720 already and I can barely do that. I work out 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week... This week I've only worked out 4 days so far and I'm 500 calories over their suggested amount that I should burn in a week. 2 of the days this week I did 30DS which wasn't even my 30 minutes worth. I just don't understand how this stuff works. I've looked all over the site and can't find a place to change the calorie intake amount, or even see how they came up with that number. It's been awhile since I set up the account.

If anyone has any insight on this please share.

Re: Sparkpeople, calories per day question

  • I had the same issue and question it's accuracy. I much prefer Jillian Michaels site for this.
  • Not to make it more confusing for you but if you do strength training too (and you should!) spart people doesnt allot any calories burned to that, but you DO burn calories doing it. So technically if you are doing strength training, you are going further over than you know.

I dont think you should stress out too much over it, eat in/above the high range of your calories on days you work out, and in the lower range on days you dont. Try that for a bit and see what happens. If you dont lose, you need to tweek what youre doing somehow - work out less or eat more.
