  Its going to depend how long your going to be in MA for. usually you have more than one dress fitting appointment and if your not going to be around for it then i would go with DC.

  You could always buy your dress in Boston, take it back down to DC with you and have your alterations done by a seamstress in your area. Then you can just travel with it once when you are on your way back up here.

  It really depends on how often you are coming up here anyway. If you know you will be here several weekends a month before the wedding, it wouldn't be so hard to do it up here. Also keep in mind who you want with you not only when you buy it, but during your fittings. I made the trip from Boston to NYC for each of my sister's 3 fittings plus dress shopping because we both wanted us both there. She will be doing the reverse for my wedding in New England. But buying here and altering there would work, just keeping in mind you'll need to get it pressed again once you get here for the wedding.

  Thank you, ladies!  I will definitely keep all this in mind for my decision.  Leaning toward buying in Boston, fittings and alterations in DC.
