Photographer's brochure - seriously?

I got a brochure from a photographer today...and maybe I'm a snob, but it was so full of grammatical errors, random font changes, font sizes, etc. that there's no way I'd ever consider using them to photograph my wedding. Clearly their attention to detail is lacking.

I'm really tempted to take a red pen to it and mark all the errors and send it back. Even the introductory letter was horrible -- random words were capitalized mid-sentence, spacing was odd (word space comma word = color ,black/white), He even split a sentence in the middle and made it two paragraphs!

I should scan it and post it online. It's awful!

  • Nice.

FI e-mailed a vendor for our wedding a year ago, in January 2009.  He got a response TODAY.  Holy FAIL.

  • That's ridiculous. I can understand a small error, but something like that makes him seem unintelligent and unprofessional. I'd probably circle in red and send it back, but I'm prissy like that.

    Do eeeet.
  • It's very unprofessional! Right now when businesses are hurting for sales, you'd think they'd make damn sure all their marketing was perfect.

I won't shop somewhere if their Web site looks like a child did it. Can't tell you how many vendors I bypass because of this.

  • I'm that way about websites. It blows my mind that in this day and age, so many businesses don't have websites or they are horrible websites. I run and design my library's website, and it's so simple.

  • I eliminate 90% of vendors I research because of stupid crap like this. I'm SURE he has a friend who will proofread, for free even. If spelling and grammar aren't your strong suit, you have options.

  • I make almost every single purchase decision based on brochure layouts, site design, spelling and grammar errors, and font choice. I absolutely would correct that POS and send it to him, with a note telling him he's welcome for your help.
  • DH and I ruled out a few photographers based on the poor grammar in their websites.

For us, we felt that if you couldn't pay attention to the small details in your website, how can we believe you'll pay attention to OUR small details?
  • In my many emails and conversations with bus companies, I came across one that was outrageously priced for a SCHOOL BUS.  I told him the price was too high for me, but thanks for the info.  He came back with how awesome their busses and drivers are and that I'd regret going with anybody else, that they're so worth the money.

I then informed him that I had been on one of his busses with my team when our school ran short of busses during districts, and that the bus smelled, the driver was abrupt and difficult, and that it definitely wasn't worth several hundred dollars more than other companies.

He then called me a snotty wh0re and said he didn't want my business anyway.  And added a few other horrid sentences.  I was actually really nice & polite with my comments, and was honestly trying to give him enough info to make improvements & book more business.  Whatever.

I'd markup the brochure and send it back too.  Anonymously.

  • Mark it up, send it back, and post his response here. :)

Whit, H is the same way about websites. When we were picking photographers, he just crossed people off who either didn't have a website (how the hell does that happen in this day and age) or if it was a crappy one. Especially if you are in the business of art and graphics, you should be able to represent yourself well through a website! Or in this case, a brochure. A photographer should understand how important appearances are.
