Re: destin FL affected by the oil spill?

  • NOO!  Not yet, and hopefully won't be!  They still have their sugar white beaches!!
  • We are watching this carefully as we want to go in June for vacation.  It's looking ok for now though--we plan to book it this weekend.  But we are driving so we'll only have to cancel the hotel if something happens.
  • Thanks ladies. I will be praying that it does not affect that area.
  • i dont' know if you're still watching this thread, but oil hit dauphin island, al, today.  that's only about two hours from destin.  i don't know when you were planning to go, but it'll probably be there in about two or three days...
  • I am getting married on Fort Walton Beach in October. I live in south south Louisiana and am very scared with my wedding. I see how it affected my beach in Grand Isle and I don't want it to affect the beaches in Florida, especially the one that I am getting married on. So, with all that said, I called my wedding planner on June 9, and she said that tar balls are washing up on shore, but as soon as they are washing up, they are cleaning up. The way that the current is going this weekend, it will pull it away from the coast.
Plus its Florida, with white sand and crystal clear waters, so I'm sure they won't let it get messed up. They would loose too much money. So if I'm not worried about my wedding, then you shouldn't be worried about the honeymoon. lol
    I would say it's safe!Laughing
