Where are you going on your honeymoon?

Hey August Brides! My FI and I are taking a delayed honeymoon in December. I was wondering where you are all going on your HM, what resorts and what not. Our budget is 2,500ish but I would love to hear the details of your plans no matter what your budget is! Can wait to hear about it!!!

I won't be able to tell you about our honeymoon until after we get back. My FI planned it and it is a complete surprise until we get to the airport. It will be a tropical all inclusive resort though. He promised me that much so I will be able to report when I get back. :)
  • We havent booked ours yet but were pretty sure were going to Pu*ta Cana

We are going to Mackinac Island in Michigan. A bit off beat, but it fits our personalities. We will be driving there through the UP, staying on the island for a few days, and then driving back through western MI and stopping at some wineries.

We hope to do the all inclusive tropical thing at some point, but for now we want to have a honeymoon yet save money for a grand European vacation in a couple years.

  • We are going to St. Lucia, Sandals La Toc for a week.

  • We don't have room in our budget for a big honeymoon, so we are doing a small weekend trip. My parents got us a gift certificate for the W Hotel at The Foshay in Minneapolis for Christmas and we decided to save it so that we can do a mini honeymoon after the wedding. We'll hopefully take a big trip in a few years.
  • We probably won't have one, we have a 20 month old and aren't comfortable with leaving her for a whole week, plus it would be financially difficult. We will probably look on groupon and livingsocial right before the wedding to see if we can find some kind of weekend getaway nearby.

  • We didn't think we would have a honeymoon, but my parents were willing to give us a small budget to work with.  We are going to Aruba and staying at Bucuti.  I don't like to be on vacation very long so we are going for six days, which cuts the cost down a little, and is incredibly long to me anyway.  From what I hear, Aruba is more affordable.  We aren't staying at an all-inclusive because we heard the restaurants on the island are so good, and we haven't worked that into our budget, but we go out to eat a lot so it'll probably cost about the same as a normal week at home.
  • We are going to Portugal & Spain with day visits to Gibraltar, Morocco, & Andorra!  I am excited, but trying to book the plane tickets & rental car is a bit stressful.

We are going to playa del carmen and doing the all inclusive thing. I'm a bit of a travel snob since I've been lucky enough to travel a lot and all over the world- so I didn[t think I would be able to be convinced to lay on a beach in Mexico for a week--but my fiance said that he is really looking forward to just relaxing. Not doing anythign touristy. Literally just laying someplace and frying on a beach w a beer in his hand- and what better place to do that than at an all inclusive place in mexico?
now that it gets closer to the wedding and things are super stressful I'm looking forward to it more than ever.

  • We're going to Secrets Royal beach in P*nta Cana. All-inclusive, adults only, with a swim out room.

All of this wedding craziness has me soooo ready to lay in the sun and relax.
  • I2012do we are thinking of Mexico ourselves, but Rivera Maya area, friends of ours have recommended Grand Pallidium which ia an AI... I agree that now that it's getting closer I think all I'll want to do is roast and drink a few, not worry about paying for each drink and eating whatever (after lean cuisines for lunch daily it will be a treat!)

  • After much debating and budgeting we decided on Florida from Nov 2-11th.  We are going to 2 Universal Studio Theme Parks (US Theme Park & Islands of Adventure- Very excited for Harry Potter World), Discovery Cove (and with that we get a ticket to Aquatica), and potentially a dinner theatre or a nice dinner at our hotel (we're staying at Hilton Bonnet Creek which is HUGE for us).  Then the 8-11th we are planning to head to one of the beaches on the Gulf Coast (we aren't sure which one yet) and just spend the weekend relaxing in the sand :)

Sometime in the next 10-15 years we hope to go to Hawaii :)

  • We are going to Italy for 2 1/2 weeks!  I'm so excited to do a lot of sightseeing- we're going to Milan, Venice, Tuscany, Florence, Rome, and then ending on the beach in Positano!

  • we have 2 kids, no vacation time and a tiny tiny budget. So we are going to stay at either the westin hotel or the biltmore hotel for a weekend. Spend a day in the spa, time at the pool, and walk around the city. We live about 15 minutes away, it will just be nice to relax and not have to worry about the kids needing us for a whole weekend. I am very easy to please :)

FI & I went to Belize last year for a week.  If you can afford the plane tickets (was $600 each for us), and don't need luxury, Belize is very do-able!  We stayed in a nice room (with shared bathroom) on Caye Caulker for $20/night.  They have two main tourist islands - Caye Caulker is smaller and more laid back and Caye Ambergris is a bit livlier (and pricier).  From either island you can do scuba excursions around $60 for all day with lunch, or just stay on the island.  PM me if you want add'l details.  We ventured inland Belize too, though that was much less "honeymoon" like and more "adventure" travel!

  • We're heading to St. Lucia-Halcyon. Its the smaller of the 3 Sandals resorts so it should be a private, quiet, and relaxing honeymoon. After planning this wedding I'm in serious need of quiet and relaxing!!

Tha'ts def our plan. we are staying at Secrets Maroma. You def. get more "luxury" if you go to mexico vs the carribean. We originally wanted to go to St. Thomas or Aruba but the flights were almost $800 in August.

I agree- I have been on the 17 day diet and will contiue it before my wedding so being able to eat whatever, drink, swim and play w dolphins is all i want to do. the only thing i want to think about at all on my honeymoon is where to lay in the sun,

  • I didn't even think about the more bang for you buck in the sense of luxury with Mexico vs. caribbean! That's a very good point. My friend getting married in September just booked her Mexican honeymoon so I guess it is a popular destination! We are thinking about honeymooning with another couple also, our friends are getting married August 25 a week after us, and taking a December honeymoon as well. We will both be on honeymoons but it might be nice to have friends to hang out with :
