So I'm doing a huge art project and have decided to take it in a historical reference direction.
Can you think of speeches that had a major historical impact? They don't need to be American or even in english.
I have:
JFK - Ask not what your country can do for you
Hitler - Address at the Reichstag
Susan B. Anthony - post arrest speech
Lincoln - Gettysburg Address
MLK jr. - Dream speech
Reagan - Mr Gorbachev tear down this wall
FDR - Day that will live in infamy
Re: Need homework help ~ history buffs?
I'm trying to think of others. I'm really intrigued as to where you're going with this!
Books read in 2012: 21/50
DX: PCOS/Recurrent losses/MTHFR mutation (compound hetero)
5 hysteroscopies/2 surgical
3 Inject IUIs = 2 m/c's and 1 BFN
IVF #1= BFP. m/c at 7w6d. Needed 2 D&C's and scar tissue removal. Mild OHSS
IVF #2 = BFP. Severe OHSS. 4 Drainings. TWINS!

Brilliant!
I need to do 7 pieces so the more I have the better. Then I can read them all and narrow it down to something I can work with.
Thanks!

I'm going to use the speech on an individual piece as a background effect that may or may not be noticed by the viewer. From 3ft+ distance it will just look like textured stripes in the background amid a watercolour wash.

Either will work

Do you think Obama's address about bin Laden's killing will have future historical impact?
If you didn't already have a LIncoln one, I'd say his second inaugural address, "A house divided", etc.

I'm debating. I really am not sure yet although I do lean toward the no simply based on the energy it did or didn't cause in America. I've been also thinking of adding GW Bush's post 9-11 speech but all the imagery I would use with that might be a tough one to work on.

I suck at this, hehe.
And dont get him started on Grant! Anything relating to the Civil war.
[QUOTE]Also comes to mind, Bill Clinton's "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." I suck at this, hehe.

Also- another fun fact about him, is that he was sworn in at a bank on Wall Street, lol. Considering all the Wall Street hate and "This country was NOT FOUNDED ON CAPITALISM" stuff that flies around these days, I find it so ironic.

Real life? Not so much.
BUT just in case, the president's speech in Independence Day. Makes me teary every time. AND Herb Brooks' speech in Miracle before they beat the Soviets. Sure, it was hockey, but totally important.
[QUOTE]Washingtons first inaugural speech. The most interesting thing about him is that he was so soft spoken for such a big man (well, big for the times). I'll add that to my list.
Really? Wall Street. Why there? I did not know that. Totally ironic.

Thats a great one.
Also Anna, im not up on feminist stuff, but I bet any speeches from the Womans Rights movement would be interesting.

The susan B one is pretty good. I've got it slated for my 3rd piece.

Yeah I am definitely no help at all.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton at the first Women's Rights Convention in the US
Betty Ford's address to the American Cancer Society (and here's a good blog post about why it was important)
Hilary Clinton at the '95 UN Women's Conference - Human rights are women's rights and women's rights are human rights

[QUOTE]I only skimmed the other posts, so I'm sorry if I'm repeating... Emmeline Pankhurst's Speech "Freedom or Death" during the Women's Suffrage Movement would make for an interesting context. Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty, or give me Death" . And though this may not be the direction you want to head, I love Lou Gehrig's "Farewell to Baseball Address". I also think that Faulkner's 1950 Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech could lead to some interesting artistic concepts.

Ooh! I love Patrick Henry
