Sorry need to vent

I'm so ticked at myself for getting caught up in dress shopping & letting the bridesmaids pick right then.  My bridesmaids are in the Royal blue which I love & my MOH ended up in the Orange.  So once my FI heard this he said his BM has to wear Orange too.  So his BM is orange & groomsmen in Royal Blue.  So what does FI want to stand out from his guys? An ALL Ivory tux.  At first I didn't say anything but the more I've thought about it...I hate the idea!!  1 he gets white dirty like in the first 5minutes of wearing it (no joke) 2 I don't want our wedding pictures to have us looking like a blob of Ivory 3 (this is my selfish one) I've always pictured my wedding day that I was the one in white/ivory.   I did bring up today at lunch that I was concerned about the ivory tux.  So we'll see how it goes.  I just really think he'd look devistatingly handsome in a black tux & ivory shirt, vest, bowtie.  Ok, I'm done Sorry.

That's a tough one.  On the one hand, I am totally with you - ivory tuxes are just weird, I would be freaked out if my fiance picked oune!  On the other hand, it's his wedding, too, and you don't have a veto.

Whoever's going tux shopping with him should get him to try on both a regular black tux and the ivory one -- I bet he's going to see himself in the latter and realize how ridiculous he looks.

If that doesn't work, you're just going to have to be honest with him and tell him you're dreading his wearing that ivory tux, and ask him to consider dropping it.  Honesty is the best policy.
  • I agree with PP. Honesty is truly the best policy. Tell him exactly how you feel and see if maybe you can come up with a compromise rather than have it one way or the other.

  • Yes he hasn't tried on either yet.  I told him I'm hesitant about the Ivory tux so he said we'd go & he'd try them both on.  I felt like a jerk, cause like you said & as I told him, its OUR wedding.  So ultimately the decision is his.  Thanks for letting me rant.

  • My FI is the type that listens to me when it comes to fashion so if I were to tell him it was aweful, he would go another route.  If your FI is like that, then just be honest with him and give him all the reasons you listed above.

What if he did an ivory jacket with black pants?  That might be a nice compromise and he will probably end up taking his jacket off at or after dinner.

  • I had a similiar issue.  FI said right off the bat that he wanted a white tux.  He said that his dad wore one and he wanted to wear one too.  I was fine with this.

When we decided on shamrock, black and white for our colors he thought it would be a great idea to wear a shamrock vest under the white jacket.  I did not like this idea at all and thought he would look like a leprechaun.  He was super insistant on it.  Anyway, I called the tux shop and had them find all different combinations.  He vetoed the green under white immediately.  He's wearing this jacket http://www.savviformalwear.com/Tuxedos/White-and-Black-Connery-by-Red-Sleeve-448.aspx with a black vest, black tie, white pants and 2 tone shoes.  It looked really awesome on him, and I kind of wish I could have been surprised by it on our wedding day.

Anyway, I would suggest letting him try on a bunch of different tuxes and he'll veto things he thought he'd like.  And you might find you like him in something you didn't think you would.

  • Definitely talk to your FI about how you're feeling. What about doing the ivory dinner jacket? That's what FI is doing and it looks great!

  • Why doesn't he do the black tux like everyone else and have white/ivory accessories?

  • Yeah I'm not sure about an ivory tux either. I hope you guys can come to an agreement though. My FI certainly haven't when he let his groomsmen pick out chocolate brown suits when I already had chocolate brown bridesmaid dresses. I haven't seen them together yet so keep your fingers crossed for me it doesn't look ridiculous.
