WWYD: Wedding Dress Issue *Updated*

I purchased my dress in May and it arrived in August, but I didn't pick it up until Sept. because the shop switched their hours and were always closed when I was able to go.

I ordered the dress in Ivory.

When I picked up the dress I thought it was lighter, but thought maybe it was the lights because she had moved the store around

Fast forward to Saturday. I took my dress to the bridal blossom to add something to it. I was trying on veils and such when I asked the lady what color veil I should get. She said white because my dress was diamond white.....

Looking at different dresses at the BB I could totally see the difference. Now I'm upset :( I don't know what I should do or if I can do anything, Should I call the store and ask them about it or let it go?

******

So I called the store Monday and I went up there today. It is ivory, but the way she explained it made sense. Different fabric lots might have different shades of the color ivory.

Did you like it better in ivory?  Was it the exact same dress?  Is it silk--because sometimes in silk dresses, your choices are diamond white and white.  It will also depend on the fabic.  I guess what I'm saying is, make sure first that your exact same dress is indeed available in ivory.  But if it is, and that is what you ordered, I would at least ask them about it.

And just to further complicate matters, I wore diamond white but was instructed by AA to order my veil in ivory.

I don't know what to tell you other than you may be out of luck since you didn't say anything to them before leaving or in the past few months.  I hope you get what you want though.

Yeah diamond white and lighter ivory colors are often confused.

I'd do as Stephie mentioned and make sure that Ivory was even an option.  The consultant may have been mistaken when she said ivory.

yeah, To be honest when I first saw it I didn't say anything because the store tag was on it and it stated ivory so I thought it was just me.

It just hit me that she was the one that made the store tag and put it on. She could of just put ivory on it. I agree though that  there has been a lag in between the time I walked out of the store to when I had more comfirmation about it. That is why I am wonder if it is a mute point. My mother says it is perfect and looks great on me.

    It's made out of taffeta.

Well, but I'm still confused--have you actually SEEN this EXACT dress in ivory?  Because you might not even like it.

I only tried on ivory dresses and I couldn't understand why they all looked so different.  My consultant explained that the color will look different on different fabrics.  In some of the lightweight fabrics, it looked almost yellow, which I did not care for at all.

With the amount of time that has elapsed, you might be out of luck.  Can we see it?  It's probably gorgeous and not worth worrying about.

I still need to get it altered.

I think Tiffany might be right though.

Ok, yes, I do see a subtle difference.  But it's beautiful in the diamond white if that is any consolation.

I think what you have now is very pretty. Does it bother you enough to change it?

Yeah, it looks like they messed up.  I would definitely let them know--I don't see why it would matter how long it's been.  It's not like the dress could have gotten any whiter while it was sitting in your closet.

That said, I really, really like the white on you.  So I would say just decide which one you like best, and talk to the shop--they should do something to compensate for their mistake whether you end up keeping the white or not.

I think both look great on you.  I think the red makes the first dress look more ivory.  Which color sash did you get?  The red or beige?

Do you like how you look in it?

For what it's worth, I think it looks beautiful in both pictures.

I can't tell much difference, but it's likely my computer monitor.  It's a beautiful dress, and I think it still looks great in either shade... And for what it's worth, that little sparkly bow is precious.

Mom and I crocheted (a lot!) and we went through that when we were looking at yarns.  I don't understand what's so hard about making the dye consistently one color.  A shade variant I can't understand but to not look at all like the original color is crazy.
