[QUOTE]I have four. My first I got at 19, with my ex-FI. Regrets? We got tattoos that went together, but I don't regret it. One of the things I said when we got them was that it had to be something I thought would be beautiful no matter what happened between the two of us. And I'm glad I did, since clearly it didn't work out. The smartest thing to do would have to not done it in the first place, but I was young and stupid and in love. Placement: Hip. It hurt. I cried like a baby. The 300 lb tattoo artist leaning on my ribs for four hours did not help. Second tattoo is from my favorite childrens book, The Little Prince. It's an illustration from the book of the Little Prince flying through the sky pulled by birds. It goes from my shoulder to my elbow. It has a quote under my arm that says " <strong>And now here is my secret , a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.</strong>" It didn't hurt much and it has been something I had contemplated getting since high school. Third tattoo was never supposed to be what it is. I had always planned to get a memorial tattoo for my step grandmother, and had the entire thing drawn out, but ended up changing it since I realized I need to be able to get a job. I had always wanted a chest piece, so I made sure I did something pretty and simple. It's a fall scene with leaves blowing off branches across my chest with the line "Autumn is a second pring where every leaf is a flower." Instead of doing it for my dearly departed s-grandmother, I just kind of combined all the things I love. It is the tattoo I have that shows the most. My only regret is now it looks weird when I wear necklaces. My last tattoo is all text, smack in the middle of my forearm. It's a part of my favorite poem, I got it after ex-FI and I broke up. Pablo Neruda's Sonnet XVII really just moved me. The part I have is "I love you as certain dark things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul" in a flowy, handwritten font. My only issue is idiots are always misinterpreting it. A model I worked with once said to me "OH that's so cool, it's like, the perfect quote for those of us with so much darkness inside." I nearly barfed. I almost threw in photos, but this is a ridiculously large block of text, and I just needed to get the tattoo related word vomit out. I've been itching to get a new tattoo and this thread just made it worse!

By far my favorite bit out of that book.  I've never read it in English though - French and German.  :)

I've read it in French and english, but I knew when I got the tattoos I had to have it in French. I had read the book when I was young, but the meaning behind it really hit me when I read it in French years later.

  • As NEY's resident tattooed freak, I feel the NEED to chime in.

I have 11 - both feet, both wrists, ribs, and probably about 45% of my back. Neither of my feet hurt. My right foot is one of my most meaningful - it's for my sister and one of my college best friends, who both had leukemia. My sister survived, my friend did not. It has orange daisies (orange is the leukemia awareness color) and pink cherry blossoms (pink was her favorite color, and cherry blossoms symbolize how fleeting life is), and her initials are hidden in the vines. There is also a ladybug, because she's my guardian angel/good luck charm. My left foot is just purple orchids - it's the only one I regret, because it never healed correctly.

My wrists - I have "just breathe." on my left wrist and a pink ribbon with "be strong" in white ink underneath it for my mom.

My ribs - "alis volat propriis" ... she flies with her own wings.

Right side of my back from shoulder blade to hip - a branch of cherry blossoms. Under that is an orange koi, swimming down, symbolizing that I have overcome difficulties in my life. Beside the koi is a purple, orange & pink spider chrysanthemum in the middle of my lower back. On the other side of that (so left hip) is a pink lotus flower.

In the middle of my shoulder blades, just below the bottom of my neck I have a dark & light blue (Maine colors) nautical star, with the latitude & longitude of my parents house. Sailors used to get nautical stars to "lead them home," so it signifies that I will always be able to find my way home.

The last one is on my left shoulder blade - it's a dandelion puff, and the fluff is coming off & turns into birds. The birds fly under my arm & end up on my inner bicep.

    More to come :-)

I have a very simple, black outline, dove on the inside of my ankle. I got it a few months after I broke up with my abusive exboyfriend. It's something I first thought about getting when I was in high school and never did partly because I didn't have a good reason for it and partly because my ex said he hated tattoos and that he wouldn't touch me if I got one. So I got it after I left to remind myself to never go back to that kind of relationship and to love and believe in myself and my dreams.

     I love YOU!

Also, I'll put a disclaimer out there - when I say my tattoos don't hurt, I mean that for the most part, I actually ENJOY getting tattooed. It is a pleasurable experience for me. Now, after 2.5-3 hours of straight tattooing, it gets a little much. But I actually LOVE the feeling of getting tattooed, so you probably don't want to take my word for the pain factor. :-)

  • I have none.  I want to get "Águas Passadas não Movem Moinhos" tattooed (I think!) on my side, near my ribs.

It's Portuguese for "Let bygones be bygones."

Me too, and I'm so glad I'm no longer alone in this lol!

That said, I have 6 and only one requires makeup to hide (inside of right wrist).  I regret the first one I got on my 18th birthday, just because I could.  I'll get that covered soon enough, but I'm not sure what I want yet.  I've had them for a long time and I really don't even notice them anymore.

This is the lineup:  Devil on lt shoulder blade, panther on lt thigh, Japanese symbol for loyalty on rt hip flexor, 2 separate that look like 1 on my lower back and the one on my wrist.  As long as I don't have a meeting on the beach, I'm good :)

I'm with you on the not hurting. My first hurt, but all the others make me giggle a little. I'm pretty ticklish, I thought the tattoo artist was going to kill me when she did my arm, near the armpit. When people tell me they're scared of the pain, I tell them it's not that bad, and if it's something you really want it's worth it. I did have some serious discomfort on the edges of my chest piece, near my collarbone, but not pain exactly. It was mostly where the top of the branches and the big leaf are. Some of it was probably me being weird about them getting so close to my neck.

  • I have four (actually five, but one is being covered up).

I will do my tattoos in order from first to last and why:

1.) I have on my lower back in a type of script: Veritas e Equitas. It was my first tattoo and loved it for two reasons...I love that it stands for Truth and Justice. I saw the words on the trigger fingers of the two brothers from Boondock Saints and fell in love with the words (hey I was 17!)

2.) I had a blue orchid on my upper back inbetween my shoulder blades. I grew up on the ocean and love to surf, plus orchid is my favorite flower. It is being covered up currently because the person who tattooed it did an awful job and made it look like a women's private part.

3.) Again because I love the ocean and surfing so much, I have a koi fish on my right foot in water, and I also like that they mean strength.

4.) Yes another water themed tattoo....On my left side I have an entire underwater theme with a turtle, fish, water, etc.

5.) My fifth tattoo is the cover up of the flower. I love photography and have since I was 7. My dad gave me my first camera which was an old Pentax 35mm film camera. The flower is being covered up by the camera and surrounding it is 35mm film.

Here are some pictures (I do not have any with the camera yet):
