Sometimes I hate is f'n island

So I go to FYE to get a DS for our friends sisters (we are going in with other friends).  While standing in line to get the DS (they are kept behind the counter) there is annoucement that you HAVE to buy an accessory in order to buy the game system.  

WTF?  So I HAVE to spend $10 (the cheapest accessory) in order buy a high ticket item.  Where is the logic in that? I Ugh.... 

On top of it, it's what 2 days left until Christmas?  They have ONE cashier.  Another worker walks in obviously late with ZERO urgency.  I do not think it's possible to walk any slower than this woman was.   Then she stopped to talk to some people, blah, blah.  I was in there for 15 minutes and she never actually got to opened up her register.

 Finally I get out of there and go to  Kmart.    They have no scotch tape.  Great... Tons and Tons of wrapping paper, but no tape.

I'm in line to pay, the person in front of me is questioning the price of something.  After 10 minutes I move to another cashier.  Guess what, the person checking out is having the exact same pricing issue.   Ugh.... 10 minutes later the problem is fixed.  Again I can not begin to tell you how slow these workers are.

I go to another store.  Out of scotch tape.   On to a 3rd store where I am able to score tape

I finally come home.  Yay.   Half the cable is out and apparently the power went out also.  I will lose it if the power goes out again.

Paradise is not all it's cracked up to be sometimes..






What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

    I cant help but laugh a little bit reading this. You get paradise, we have a crapload of tape. You cant have everything apparently!

    Nebb - you are correct.  You can't have it all.

    IIt was dani.  But I'm  home now.  so I'm good.

    I do have to remember to get cash.  With the holiday and  boxing day being on Saturday, they will not refill the ATMs until Tuesday.
    So that means the ATM will be dry by Saturday.

    I feel your pain!!!  I had to go to three stores here to find brown sugar for cookies.  It's kind of a basic ingredient, but the stores were sold out.  

    Their excuse?  All of the holiday baking.  Um, yes, that's right people, Christmas comes every year.  At the same time.  Plan on it.

    Grrr.  I have other examples, but I'll stop now.

    Yes Expat... The same thing happens here.

    There was a store in St John who stopped stocking Triscuts  because they kept selling out and it was too much work to re-stock.

    Umm okay? Here I thought the point of a store is to sell products.

    Heh.  Every fall, my local grocery store runs out of lemon juice.  Why?  All the canning people are doing. 

    Really?  You don't have stats on this?  You know, trends that would tell you that every year you're going to sell more lemon juice in the fall?  No?  Well, you have me telling you now, you idiot.

    This is only kinda related, but interesting:

    Evidently Mexicans prefer their soy sauce to be mixed with lime juice...  So at Japanese restaurants, they serve it that way.  In the original Kikkoman soy sauce bottles.  That has to be against Kikkoman's rules...  Talk about brand confusion.

    When I've mentioned this, people look at me like I'm crazy.  "But that's how soy sauce is served here.  We like it this way.  It's too strong otherwise."  Yes, but it's NOT REALLY KIKKOMAN...  I give up :(

    I've gone to KFC here and been told they are out of chicken.  You know, the main product of Kentucky fried CHICKEN.

    We were just in Rosarito and we went in a store that had only 1-3 of each item.  The shelves were empty and he had single items spaced about 4-5 inches away from each other.  I felt sad so I bought some wine.  He had a rare bottle of absinthe in the which was kind of crazy  I was only able to find it on google in one listing.

    The complete lack of urgency drives me nuts in the Caribbean.  The eye rolling like you are interrupting them from sitting on their ass.  My friend wanted a shirt steamed for her wedding the next day.  I laughed at her and she thought I was lying.  We get there and the guy rolled his eyes into the ceiling and sighed about 8 times before agreeing that he could steam a shirt within 24 hours.

    Sometimes I am jealous of that laid back lifestyle.  Just for like a week or something.  I would go crazy though.  I know I would.
