Passport?? I completely forgot.

It just dawned on me that my passport expires this year.  I thought it expired this November but no it expires this July.  Ugh!  Ok fine.  I just need to do it now rather than later.  Expedite and overnight delivery here I come.

I have filled out the applicable renewal form and took my passport photo today so that I can send off the renewal package tomorrow.  Well I realized I smiled in the photo.  The subject of whether to smile or not in a passport photo is hazy.  The info on the State Department website just says the photo should be "neutral".  What in the world does "neutral" mean?

So I looked around and it seems that "neutral" could be a smile so long as your eyes are open.  Something about being able to use a biometric scanner for I.D. purposes requires your eyes to be open. 

To be safe I am going to retake my photos without smiling because I have no idea what really is acceptable and I want no delay with my passport. 

Out of curiosity, anyone recently renew their passport and can shed some light on this?  Thanks.

    Well I haven't had to renew my passport yet, but I remember I took my pics at Coscto and I smiled and they didn't tell me otherwise.  When I went to the post office to apply, they didn't mention a word about it and my passport was issued with no problem.  My mom and grandma went that same week to get there's (we were all going on a cruise together) and my mom said they told them not to smile and this was the first I had heard of it.  With that being said, under the circumstances, I think you are doing the right thing by retaking the pics just to be on the safe side.  Luckily the pics are pretty cheap and its not worth delaying your passport over.

    Thank you for the reminder. We need to get our passports our we will be some very sad people come July 2nd.

    Thanks ladies.  I retook my picturea and now have my "mugshots" for my passport.  I feel better now but, woo lawd, the pics are HORRIBLE.  LOL!
