I nearly had a heart attack

Re: I nearly had a heart attack

  • That's shitty, JCB.  One of our horses escaped one time (I'm still not sure how she managed that).  Our neighbor stuck her in her barn but didn't bother to tell us that she was there.  I had called out of work, called the cops, and was searching around the property when I found her in the neighbors barn.  I was relieved to have found her, but fuucking pissed that our neighbor didn't bother telling us she was there.

  • Oh man, we had something similar happen when I was about 14.  A storm had knocked a board on our fence loose, and my dad hadn't realized it because it LOOKED fine.  Our dog got out and went exploring.  We didn't have our number on her tag, but the people who found her (six blocks away) recognized her, coaxed her into their fenced yard, walked all the way to our block, and knocked on 4 doors until they figured out which house she belonged to.  My mom was so happy she cried, and she tried to give them a reward but they refused it and said they were just happy to be able to get our dog back to us safely.

My dad checked every board on that fence after every major storm after that.

I'm so glad they found him and called your H!

[QUOTE]Um, yeah.  And tbh, I think the man was drunk - which is fine - it was a Saturday afternoon and he wasn't working.  But wtf?  He KNOWS how people are about their pets.  When I knew that they were there, I drove straight to his house and he happened to be getting out of his truck.  I told him he had my dogs and he looked at me for a few seconds before reluctantly offering to go to his office and return my dogs.  Fukker.

  • What the hell, JCB?  That doesn't even make sense.

  • Jcb, I would have been arrested that day.
  • Glad Cooper is okay.  That is one of my biggest fears with Helmut.  He adjusted nicely when I moved in with FI, actually stays better at FI house than he did when I lived near the river with the kids.
  • Growing up we had an Irish Setter that would wander occassionally.  One day we couldn't find her and were frantically searching the neighborhood.  After about an hour, our next door neighbor went upstairs to wake up her daughter to help us look, and there was Misty curled up on the other bed in the bedroom sound asleep.  It turns out the youngest boy and left their back door open and Misty wondered in and decided to take a nap. (we were close friends with the neighbors and the kids and the dogs were always in each others yards)

We can laugh about it now, but we were scared to death while we were looking for her.

Huck got out at the dog park once. I was so upset running around trying to coax him back into the fence or in my hands. Once he was safely back inside the park, I started to question how he got out. The dog park has two gates, an inner and outer one. You walk into a smaller area and close the gate before you open the actual gate to the dog park.

After I started thinking about it, I started getting really mad because how as a dog owner would you open both gates and leave them open! And he isn't a small dog at 65lbs. It isn't like he is a small dog that can get lost under feet or dog legs.

He has gotten out at my dad's house before and just started running through the woods and would zoom back by the house every 10 minutes or so. It was so frustrating because he would run close enough that I could feel a breeze but not close enough I could touch him. Ah the spirit of a hound.

    I'm glad he's ok!!
Having a pet missing is so scary! We have a 14 year old dog who is pretty blind and rapidly going deaf. We live in an apartment so we generally don't have to worry about where he is but the other day we took him with us to a friends house for a bbq and he disappeared for a while. The door had been left open (people were going in and out) and I started scouring the neighborhood looking for him. I assumed he was roadkill because they live on such a busy street and he can't hear/see the cars.

Luckily, we found him in the attic of the house. He somehow managed to climb all the way up there but couldn't see well enough to get back down and obviously didn't hear us calling him to respond.
Dumb dog! But we love him, lol

  • LMAO!!  I thought Cooper was a small child until I read the part about kids petting him.  I would just die if anything happened to my little animal baby.  Even though the back yard is fenced, I'm still scared a large bird will swoop up and grab her!
  • One time when I was walking my dalmatian, two old ladies asked me if that (pointing to Jazz) was my dog. I said yes and found out from these ladies that apparently my dog would break out of the backyard on weekdays everyday at a certain time to walk down four houses to have tea and cookies with these old ladies on their porch. After tea and cookies my dog would walk right back to our house. Obviously, my dog liked cookies...a lot.
