April 2014 Weddings

Is anyone else planning?

I know all my bridesmaids, and have their dresses picked out...
Seriously I feel like I have so much time...
But then again I have no time...

Is anyone else planning like me??

Re: Is anyone else planning?

  • I am planning currently. Possible going to have to change my date again but hey that will just give me more time to get everything done.

FYI if you go to 1800registry.com you will get a free wedding planner binder for free.
  • i have started planning already. I have picked out my venue and will putting a deposit down in June. the venue i chose has all inclusive packages which i totally liked which will leave me pretty much stress free on certain things.
  • I am planning already. I have the reception venue booked and am currently looking at churches. I know it's so far away, but I'm so excited to plan that I can't help myself! I think it will be helpful and less stressful in the long run to have things planned early.
  • I am planning, but haven't acted yet. Have not chosen a venue but am hoping to find a place to host both the ceremony and the reception. We would like a Friday night, hopefully a 5pm ceremony, 6 pm dinner ending at 11. I am hoping to keep our guest list to 150, and I am assuming that my entire family, besides. Few cousins will not tend since my mom and siblings don't like my fiancé. But with him, he wants to invite every person he has ever known, so the list may go over 150. I am DIY'ing a lot of stuff... Invites, all stationary ( menus, programs, escort cards, table numbers, etc), centerpieces, rehearsal dinner, kids activity kits, favors, thank yous, guest book, card box, save the dates, etc I am DIY'ing to save money as I would like to keep our budget under $10k. The major expenses will be the venue, caterer, DJ, photographer, and cake.
  • oh good! i'm not the only one planning!
I'm looking at a venue tomorrow, I've had my photographer picked out for years (I'm a photographer, so I've been following her on facebook.) I'm hoping to go dress shopping soon (maybe the same day as the venue's open house.) I've also already interviewed a wedding coordinator because my family seems really discouraging as far as what to plan (my mom's exact words were "what's to plan?", i love her, but she doesnt like planning in general, her wedding was extremely traditional and easy to throw)

  • I'm planning already!  :)

I know the venue that I want for the ceremony and reception and I got all of their information.  I won't be booking them until next year though. I have a few photographers picked out that I would like to meet with.  I'm planning on doing lots of diy projects for the wedding and I have a lot of ideas for them already.  I have my dress!  I love it so much!  And I know that our children are going to be our "wedding party."

  • We are in the early stages of planning.  Currently looking at venues, hoping to put a deposit down by the end of summer once we find a place we like and work out all the financial details.  I'm a haggler LOL.

  • Thats so rude. My FI and I went Sunday to book the wedding and we are lucky they had our date available, they were pretty booked in April. No1 should be rude. You start planning when you are ready. They should bend over backwards for your business.
  • I'm planning but I guess not officially. Is it considered too early to plan/book venues? I'm been brainstorming for a while. I chose a theme already. I love the nautical theme. :)

There isn't a lot that NEEDS to be planned until about 1 year out from your wedding date other than your budget.

We are starting from there, set a budget and save!  We think we know our venue site, so we will check there about how far out to book, but right now, I am enjoying being newly engaged and sharing the news with friends and family!  Once again, congratulations to you all.  :)

<div>So true! That's great advice. I talked to the pastor on the phone to see if the wedding date was okay and it is...I'm so glad. We're going to see up a meeting soon to fill out forms and meet the pastor in person. </div><div> I definitely want to enjoy being engaged. :)</div>
  • I have planned a little. I can't help myself!!! I'm so excited!!! We have decided where we want to have the ceremony and the reception. We are going to try to contact those sites this week.

  • I am already planning.  I have my venue picked out and have started DIY projects and have even finished a few.  If you know what you want there is no reason to not get a head start.

  • I'm kinda preplanning. Already have my budget set, and looking up venues and such that I want to go to. Already know who will be in my wedding party 6 close friends, 6 close friends of FI's, and our twins will be our flower girl and ring bearer, and my mom and uncle will be walking me down the isle. We have had our color scheme picked out for about a year and a half already, and we're having our bridesmaids picking out their own dresses I will tell them the material, color, and length, they can pick their own style, and we know what we want our groomsmen to wear all black with red ties, groom in solid black ala Johnny Cash. I'm probably not going to go dress shopping til about a year9 months before the wedding so I can work on losing weight. : also know who's doing the hair and makeup because she's my usual hairdresser and I love her to death!

We booked our venue today.  It was exciting signing that first contract together!  We will talk to the photographer we are interested in later this summer.  So far, that is all we plan to do until we get a bit closer to our date.  How is everyone else doing?

  • Congrats on the big check RWS!!!  We are taking our FOCCUS test next Saturday at the church.  We are looking at one more venue today, but right now we have two that we are torn between, so we are secretly hoping that today's appointment goes ok, but not enough to throw us for another loop with three potential venue options LOL.

  • Yes!! I am very excited about our wedding :)
We are planning a destination wedding in Barbados, and although it is still early I really want to be able to give the bridal party a budget for the whole trip. Thankfully we are keeping it fairly simple, but booking less than a year away for a destination wedding is a bit of a gamble so we have chosen to secure a few things (accommodations & photographer) far in advance so that we don't have to worry about it later down the road.

I honestly think that planning early is a good way to keep the process less stressful. You aren't rushing trying to get everything figured out in a few short months etc.

  • I had my hubby contact the ceremony and reception venues 2 weeks ago. We went and looked at them last week and fell in love. They are very close to one another and I love that. We're puttin the deposit on both in October That will be 18 monyhs before the ceremony I already have a good idea of what photographer, caterer, and dj I want as well as where I want to get the cake. I'm super excited!!!! I have searched online for dresses and BM dresses. However, I won't be shopping for either of those until next April. I have a bit of weight to lose and I'm not trying to put any more pressure on myself! :

  • Thanks ladies!! Very excited to have one thing some what worked out!

I have been wonding about booking accommodations now ( we are have our ceremony in Barbados), I am worried if we don't book the villa now that someone might snag it for the two weeks we want it for...   You think it's too early?

I was worried about that too!! But when we went to meet with the coordinator at the reception venue she told us she didn't even have a 2014 calendar yet! lol. However, I found out today the garden we were planning on have the ceremony at is no longer booking weddings. :( I am just beside myself and I feel like I'm going to cry. I have been picturing this for the last 8 years. :( It's too early for tears, right?!

  • I think I'd be upset too.  But that is why we are planning a little earlier so that we have time to figure something out when things like this sort of sneak up on us LOL.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • I have been trying to think all day of some where else to have to ceremony and I just can't come up with anything. :( We didn't hear the news from the coordinator at the venue so I'm keeping my spirits up until my DH actually speaks to the coordinator at the garden. Keep your fingers crossed! :)

<div>Remember that weddings of your dreams are just that, dreams.  When you actually start planning your real wedding with your fiance, visions can change and compromises need to be made based on tastes, budget and availability.  If you can book the garden of your dreams, that's awesome and I will cross my fingers for you!  If, however, it is not available, rather than letting it get you down, think of this as an opportunity to dream up a new perfect spot and explore your options with your FI!  Either way, I know you will find a beautiful place and in the end what matters most is the commitment you are making to each other!  Best of luck.  :)</div>

  • Found the lace for my wedding dress a little while back!! My mom is making my dress (she has made 5 other wedding dresses!! I know it's super early, but I am still super excited. We will be heading out to find the silk satin sometime soon too.
The next tricky part will be finding a pattern to base the style off of :)

  • Okay, I don't feel stupid for starting the planning process with the amount of lead time we have...I'm obviously in good company! :)

First Anniversary 5 Love Its First Comment First Answer
    edited July 2012
FI and I just decided on April 2014 the other day.

We both hate summer; easy decision to rule that season out.  I'm a teacher, so fall is too chaotic with the school year starting.  We both love the winter, but live in the NE where snow storms are always a possibility, so winter was out. So, it seemed like spring was the only season left!  FI is a HUGE hockey fan, so late spring (playoff time) is totally out of the question, and my birthday is in March...So April it is!

FI would like me to finish grad school first without stressing about a wedding, so planning to be kept to a minimum until I'm done with my program.  However...I don't graduate until May 2013, which freaks me out.  I know others can, but I can't possibly plan a wedding in 11 months.  So we've agreed to do some wedding planning in the 2 weeks between the end of my summer semester and when I go back to work in the fall.

We haven't started any official planning yet; I've been doing a lot of "mental planning" posting things to pinterest, and FI and I have discussed our "vision".  I have a few venues and photographers in mind, but nothing has been set yet.
