Re: Kicks stuff

  • Sorry to butt in on this, but i can relate to Nebb's homeless guy problems.  We used to have a homeless guy who lived behind my library.  It's a public place, so we couldn't tell him that he had to leave as long as he wasn't loitering.  As you can imagine, there's a fine line between loitering and reading a newspaper outside.

Guess who was elected to go talk to the guy?  You guessed it - me!  Nice guy, just a bit crazy and smelly.

He was also "harmless."  He was proud to tell me that he didn't drink or do drugs and he kept his shopping cart clean/organized.  I warned him that he couldn't live behind the library and that if we caught him there again we'd have to call the Sheriff.

It took 6 weeks of calling the Sheriff every day to get any results.  The Sheriff was also asked to pass by at night to run him off during our closed hours.  We had to post a no trespassing sign too.  Finally, we got approval from County Council (our lawyer folks) to tell him that if he didn't stop sleeping/loitering at the library we would be forced to press charges.  He was welcomed to use the facility as a library, but he could not sleep there.

    He didn't come back.

Nebb - you could ask the police at what point you could press charges against him for trespassing.  It might take the threat of jail time for him to stop coming around.  The other option might be to get a restraining order of some kind
  • Nebb, I wuv your dog. So cute! I have a *slight* obsession with pugs. :)

  • I'm kind of miffed at the police officer's response to this. I'm sorry but a random dude regularly eating/drinking on your property is not something that they should just brush off this lightly. What if, God forbid, he turns violent or your pup gets into the chicken bones? Will the police take care of the vet bills, medical costs or insurance costs since they refused to deal with this "harmless" guy? I doubt it.
  • Vinnie makes everything better! Sorry about your lameo hobo, Nebb-o.

  • Oh man that's an awesome picture of your dog!

And yeah, that sucks.  Stupid hobo.  I like the yelling out at him idea.
