Buying my dress online...

I found my dress for $8,000 and did a google search and found it again from a discount website for $287. Are these website safe to trust? If you have any thoughts please share them. I believe the websites come out of China. I kinda feel like I would be buying a knockoff.

Re: Buying my dress online...

  • A lot of websites offer "replicas" from Chinese workshops but there is really no way to know how the dress will look until you get it! There's a reason some dresses cost $8,000 - the amount of time spent making it, the materials, the fabrics, etc. CMGr is right - there's no way it's the same dress, and you'll get swindled one way or another.

It would essentially be like buying a plastic ring that LOOKS like Princess Kate's. It may look a BIT like it, but it's nothing like her ring.

Really hard. But I wanna do that because I want you

If you really don't care what your gown will look like then it's fine to purchase from those knockoff sites.  They don't show you pictures of their work on the site, the picture you see is stolen from the original designers website.  The fabric will be of very cheap quality, the seams and any beading or lace won't be good quality.  If $300 is what you can afford in a derss then there are plenty of places for you to look.  oncewed.com, preownedweddingdresses.com, Davids Bridal, the classifieds board here on the knot.

  • Don't be fool on wedding dress discounts like that. It is only a trap to attract customers and after you have paid for it online. They will suddenly disappear and you cannot contact them anymore.

  • I'm of the belief that there's no need to spend that much on a dress if you can get it for cheaper, and yes, it probably will be a knockoff.  But let's be honest girls, most of our wedding dresses originate from China anyway, you're just cutting out the middle man, the boutique, that jacks up the price and offers Free Alterations.

I looked into it myself and my only concerns were, if you get it and you don't like it you're out that amount, because shipping it back to return it is $200+ so make sure you love the dress, have asked any questions and know the dress will look good on your body type.

While some designers may have their dresses made in China, not everyone does. That being said, often with the Chinese knock off sites you are not cutting out the middle man, but the people who 'steal' photos of designer dresses and then sell them for a reduced cost. Many people on here have ordered their dream dress and had on arrive that was nothing like what they ordered and had to start from scratch. I wouldn't risk it

Have you ever seen the finished product from these knockoff sites?  I have, several, and none of them look like the designer dress.  The fabric is horrible looking and that's just in pictures, who knows how bad it is in person.  If the dress has any kind of detailing it's usually kind of similar to the designer but the details are what people usually fall in love with to purchase the dress in the first place.  I've seen crooked seams, pleating and pickups that look like a 5 year old hyped up on sugar created, and some that look nothing like what the designer dress looked like.<div>
</div><div>And yes, some of the designers do have their main factories in China but the difference is that the brand has quality control.  If the dress isn't what it was in the salon where you tried it on they will take full responsibility and get you your correct dress.  It doesn't usually get to that point because of quality control. </div>

  • I would be worried and there is no doubt we all love a deal, but that's a little...suspicous.

There are plenty of ways to save money and time on your dress, but you have to figure out if the risk is worth being out an additional $287 AND buying another dress later or just trying to find it somewhere else locally.

I found my wedding dress online for about $2,000 but I was able to purchase it locally for under $600. Think it through before you make such a bold move; it may just not be worth it.

  • I'm curious about those sites, too. But has anyone actually bought from them? There are reviews on their websites and what I'd like to see is if there are actual brides that bought from these sites has to say........

I purchased my dress off line on one of the websites. My dress came out just like it looked online. I did go to a store and try a similar dress on. What I would tell you isa before ordering the dress use wedding bee or google to get reviews on the company. The first dress I fell in love with, I was just about to order, when I checked the reviews they were horrible. The company that I orderd my dress from had great reviews. And I must agree with them, the compnay did an amazing Job. Check the Reviews before ordering and go to a store to try a similar dress on to know if that is what you want.  GOOD LUCK

  • Its like trying your luck out. Sometimes, you get a good deal, but many- a- times, the stuff of the cloth is not good enough. If you are buying online, you should always go to a credible and branded site, who take their stuff back, if any faults are found. Cash on delivery is the best option to for.
