NWR: Race for Wishes

So I know alot of you might not be runners, but this event is really fun and I figured I'd share as registration just opened. You can also walk this event (which i plan on doing this year with the dogs, instead of run). They have music, and boothes for kids, and awesome food.

The event will be located in Irving TX on the morning of March 26th.

http://raceforwishes.kintera.org/faf/help/helpEventInfo.asp?ievent=441908&lis=1&kntae441908=A1531F2377404397BB834DD78ADCBF31

I'll be running/walking for a team again this year, so if you want any info on it you can check out the link above or PM me :)

This event is all about donations to go towards the Make a Wish Foundation, so even if you don't want to run or walk you can come out and enjoy the event and donate some money for some good food :)

I might be able to do it.  We have a March trip in the works so I'll have to wait and see what the dates are.

I'm not a "runner" by any means but I did run my first 5K on Thanksgiving Day.   I've slacked on my running since then so something like this would give me motivation to do it again.

I may do that :) I live in Las Colinas, and am a runner. Well.....I've been slacking lately. It's been so cold....

I did the 5k run part last year, and it was GREAT motivation for getting back in the gym. I'd like to do it again this year, but I can't just yet because of my knees. I do plan on doing the 5k walk though, and FI is either going to do the run or the walk. It's a ton of fun!

THIS, exactly.  LOL..  I've kept up with everything else... just not running.  I detest the treadmill and it's soo cold outside... not to mention DARK when I get home even if it is warm.

I know...I've been so into body pump and spin classes at the gym I've let my running go a little bit.

I hated running in the dark lol.

I think my favorite memory of this event was last year when they had the chick-fil-a cow out there, giving out free coupons for food, after the event we drove to the chick-fil-a down the street and got full on free kids meals :)

    I <3 chick-fil-a! :)

Natalie - Give me a week to see if I can confirm the dates for this trip (it's a company thing so unfortunately I have zero control).

If we will be in town then I'll do it!

    10-4 :)

How much is the minimum donation amount? I know the MS150 race you have to raise at least a certain amount before you can race.

I was just reading the FAQ.  It doesn't look like there is a minimum, but there are prizes for the highest fundraisers.

That would be really neat!! :)

I'm already registered for a team...I wonder if i can be on two? Hmmm lol. Probably not. :)

But i'll be on "Michaels League". Michael was a family friends son who battled cancer from the age of 1 to i believe 8? He passed away August of 2008. Make-a-wish sent him to Disney world for a day :)

I agree, if we can get that many people.

I know that Kathy is a runner. But I have seen her around here lately.

And don't forget you don't HAVE to run to be on a team. You can do the 5k walk, they time you with that as well. Or you can do what's called a Fun Run/Walk...i think it's only a mile. And you can even bring the pups! As this is a very dog friendly event!

Aww, I'd love to do this, but I just signed up to to the Rock n roll 1/2 marathon the day after.  So I'm going to be resting.

Kathy gets on every now and then.  She posted a while back that her work blocked the site or something so she can't really get on during the day. Maybe if you PM her.

Herre's the response i got back from my team leader:

"There's no donation minimum as a single unless you set the goal for yourself. As a team we just try to raise money. You're not required to donate anything yourself when you are a part of the team. It's completely up to the team members if they want to add to it. The registration fee is donation in itself. :) "

    Hope that helps!

i'm a volunteer for MAW and was on the committee for the race last year.

there are no minimums to raise. y be sure to register so that you get a shirt and bag of goodies. also, wish kids will typically do some type of performance and wish families will be there too. there's always breakfast and lunch there too. the walk is typically finished by 11:30 or so. if y'all have any questions, let me know!

I would totally be up for the team if we have enough people!
  • edited December 2011
How many people is that?  We need a team leader to set it all up.  I think I count (without going back a page to double check) five people.  If we are bringing DH/FI's (like Ashlee mentioned), then that's 6, right?  Or was I counting Ashlee when I can't because she's on another team.

    How many do we need?
